1

Dental Caries Exam

You can't be too careful about your teeth! So our team performs a thorough exam before we start the cleaning process. We check for cavities, carious dentin, or tooth decay. Generally, dental x-rays taken on average once per year - they help us diagnose issues that may otherwise have been missed. After the cleanings, our dentists will provide you with treatment options, if needed, and help you decide on the best one for your specific individual needs. The dental exam also looks for less common conditions like Oral cancer.

2

Periodontal Exam

At your dental exam at our Aurora family dentistry clinic, we will check your gums for any signs of periodontal disease during the procedure. A dental probe will allow our dentists to assess how deep each pocket is between tooth and gum below its attached skin layer called "gingiva." Healthy mouths have shallower pockets that prevent plaque buildup under them! Based on the depth of these pockets, our dentists can recommend appropriate steps towards maintaining your best oral hygiene - brushing, flossing, frequency of dental cleanings, or a deep cleaning when needed.

3

Professional Teeth Cleaning

Professional teeth cleaning in Aurora, ON, involves removing plaque from the surface of your tooth. Special dental instruments allow our dentists and hygienists to get rid of bad breath and accelerated decay caused by bacteria buildup that can contribute to gum disease or oral health. Problems such as cavities, halitosis (bad breath), crooked smile lines, etc., may eventually lead you to have a less confident outlook about yourself if these conditions are left untreated. Preventive dental cleanings are usually quick and easy for people with healthy gums and teeth.

Dental Cleanings
Laser Bacterial Reduction

At Aurora Family Dentistry, we offer laser bacterial reduction or LBR. A modern and fast preventive procedure to be done before every dental cleaning appointment, it uses heat from a mini-laser thermally dehydrates the biofilms that live in pockets around your teeth – while traditional cleanings only get rid of surface deposits on these areas!

Our new laser bacterial reduction treatment allows you to enjoy a clean mouth without worrying about pain or discomfort. The laser breaks up the harmful bacteria that live on your teeth’s surface so that they are prevented from going into deeper tissues where there could be problems such as gingival infection!

LBR is a great choice because it shields the tooth from plaque buildup, food particles and bacteria that cause cavities.
It is quick – usually takes about 5 minutes.
It is Painless.
If you have questions about this laser bacterial reduction at Aurora Family Dentistry, please ask your hygienist or Dr. Naqvi. They would be sure to help you.

We’re passionate about helping you take the first step toward improving your oral health. Our Aurora dentists have years of experience; we know that today is a perfect day for getting your dental hygiene going in the right direction – so don’t delay getting your oral health back on track!

The human mouth is a breeding ground for bacteria. Even if you brush and floss after every meal, bacteria can accumulate in the tiniest crevices that are hard to reach with routine brushing or cleaning tools–this includes those pesky pits between your teeth! Over time these areas will start causing pain as well as damage leading up to the total loss of one or more of your precious pearly whites

What can you expect during your cleaning and consultation? Your visit to the dentist will include an examination of teeth, gums, and tongue; x-rays may be required if there are any problems with dental health. You’ll also consult our Aurora dentist about anything related to oral health, stains on your teeth from coffee or wine, deposits between your teeth, bad breath caused by poor brushing habits, etc. Our experienced hygienists will handle your teeth cleanings – our dental cleanings generally end with a polishing session to help give you that fresh, bright smile.

Maintaining good oral health at home between dental cleanings and exams is pivotal to keeping a bright and healthy smile. Good daily habits that will help you maintain excellent oral health include:

  • Brushing and Flossing your teeth after every meal.
  • Drinking fluoridated water to avoid decay.
  • Using quality toothpaste to protect against plaque buildup.
  • Avoid excessive amounts of dark beverages like coffee and wine to prevent staining your teeth.

Generally, dental cleanings are not painful. However, if needed, your Aurora dentist will use local anesthesia to make your dental cleaning painless. If you experience any discomfort or pain during the procedure, be sure to let your hygienist or dentist know, so they can take appropriate steps to relieve the pain as much as possible in the dental cleaning. Your dentist will also find a long-term cure for the condition that is causing the pain to occur.

Dental insurance plans generally fully cover two annual teeth cleanings (also called hygiene or prophylaxis) in Ontario. This coverage minimizes your out-of-pocket expense, and your insurance plan will pay all or most of your dental cleaning costs twice a year.
This coverage for dental cleaning is one way that your dentist & your insurance company help you prevent potential problems before they become painful, costly ones.
Please note that no two dental insurance plans are identical; you should check with your insurance provider to fully understand your entitlements.
If you have questions about your dental insurance coverage; speak to us.

We know your time is valuable, and we want to ensure you get the care, advice, and treatment needed for any oral health issues. That’s why our new patient visits last only 1 hour or less; recall appointments will generally be shorter at 45 minutes.

How much you pay for dental cleaning depends upon how long your dental cleaning takes. For folks who have teeth in excellent condition, a professional cleaning should take 30 minutes or two units. However, if the cleaning is deep, meaning that we need to go under your gums to clean tartar or plaque, the time would be longer at 60 minutes or four units of professional dental scaling.

If you feel any pain in your dental cleaning, we may need to provide freezing; of course, that would be at an extra cost. Similarly, X-rays, if required, will be at an additional cost.

The Ontario Dental Association (ODA) fee guide for 2021 suggests $63.00 for one unit of professional cleaning.

In a nutshell, the better your oral health, the quicker your dental cleaning appointment will be, and the lesser you will need to pay. It, therefore, helps your oral health and pocketbook if you regularly have dental cleaning appointments.

At Aurora Family Dentistry, our comprehensive dental cleaning appointment and exam includes an Oral Health Exam after dental scaling treatment. According to the 2021 ODA Fee Guide, an adult exam (full permanent dentition) by a dentist will cost $157.

To know what your teeth cleaning appointment will cost, please call us at 905-751-0009, and our team will give you a planned estimate of the cost of the dental cleaning treatment that you require.
