While no one knows exactly what is happening with Jaguar after repeated recalls and reported cancellations of massive order reels, plus the closing of the My Jaguar portal and various dealers, Land Rover appears to be thriving instead.
The British off-road specialist, currently part of Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC, the holding company of Jaguar Land Rover Limited, recently took to North America to announce the introduction of a couple of special limited-edition models. The $169k Range Rover Sport Park Edition will number only seven units and is intended as a tribute to the Utah city best known for its highly acclaimed ski resorts.

Secondly, the Range Rover SV Arete Edition arrived in Whistler to enjoy the Canadian resort lifestyle with just eight examples. Whistler, British Columbia, is considered an exclusive modern luxury retreat by Land Rover, but the truth is that it's one of the largest ski resorts in America per se – and the area even hosted the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics – so that kind of attracts big crowds, not just the one percenters, right?

Anyway, now they have prepared a dream of spring that will probably morph into a lust of summer by the time it comes out of the teaser territory for the official reveal. More precisely, Land Rover has kicked off the marketing campaign for the upcoming Defender OCTA – which is claimed to be "the toughest, most capable and luxurious Defender ever." This new high-performance all-terrain "hero" will be introduced later this year, and thanks to its V8 twin turbo, it will become the most powerful Defender ever.

That means it will rise above the current flagship – the $111,500 Defender V8 and the costlier $118,600 Defender V8 Carpathian Edition have a 5.0-liter V8 under the hood that's good for no less than 518 horsepower. The Land Rover Defender "has been synonymous with all-terrain capability with a bloodline tracing back to the Series 1 in 1948. The new Defender OCTA will take this to another level with a dramatic stance, innovative technology, and unparalleled attention to detail. With astounding performance and a bold new attitude, it will enable our clients to master epic adventures in heightened luxury," explains Mark Cameron, Managing Director, Defender.

The all-new Land Rover Defender OCTA will use not just the V8 Twin Turbo gasoline engine with mild hybrid assistance but will also take advantage for the first time of the company's 6D Dynamics air suspension, which features hydraulic interlinked technology with an innovative pitch and roll control system that should enable the SUV to "maintain a near-level stance during acceleration, braking and cornering on-road, while also maximizing independent wheel travel and articulation across the most demanding off-road terrain."

Its luxury credentials, meanwhile, will be emphasized by the diamond's octahedron shape – a new encircled diamond graphic styling will personalize the flagship Defender model with new interior and exterior components such as a gloss black diamond set within a machined and sandblasted titanium disc on each Signature Graphic panel. Currently, the Defender OCTA is undergoing the classic development tests – and this is said to be "the most exhaustive development regime in Defender history, from the snow and ice of Sweden to Dubai desert, Nürburgring tarmac, and Moab rock crawls."

Ahead of the general audience's preview, prospective customers of the all-new Defender OCTA (which is probably the SVX successor) will get to see it during exclusive events as part of a new global Defender Elements series. So, hopefully, we will get some leaks with the design and features from there sooner rather than later.
