About the Author
John R. Morgan knows what’s on the test: he spent three and one-half years at Assessment Systems, Inc. (ASI—now Pearson VUE) in its Real Estate Test Development program.
During this period he was in charge of developing, maintaining, and enhancing the question pools and licensing exams for ASI’s then-20+ real estate client jurisdictions.
Morgan conducted over two dozen state-specific test development meetings and consultations in capitals nationwide.
His career at ASI culminated in drafting the general examination outline that, with minor subsequent changes and recent extensive listing of Topic Area sub-topics, remains in use, then reviewing it and all of ASI’s sales-level general test questions with a national committee of Subject Matter Experts.
During this process he personally reviewed thousands of general sales and broker question across multiple databases and performed all of the content coding and database transfers required to consolidate them into a single comprehensive database for both sales and broker level exams.
Morgan left ASI in early 1998 to found Morgan Testing Services and pursue consulting, writing, and other service opportunities. He has reviewed and/or revised thousands of test questions in Dearborn’s Real Estate Education Company’s publications, written nine books, and provided test development services for Arizona, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina, as well as curriculum development workshops for South Carolina and both licensing exams and a real estate guide for the government of Bermuda.
He entered the field of large-volume test development at the Educational Testing Service (ETS) where he spent several years writing, editing, and assembling material for the verbal portion of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), AP Literature examinations, and other ETS programs including Georgia school proficiency exams and reading sets for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).
A professional educator and writer since receiving his Master of Arts in Teaching English from Brown University in 1981, Morgan took his first real estate course in 1978 while studying literature at the University of Connecticut.
He held his first real estate license in Rhode Island during graduate school, his second in Arizona, where he sold property in Tucson, and now holds his third in Connecticut, where he lives on the eastern shore with
