Boston: George F. Meacham, 1878. Original document. Cylinder. vg. Original black soft buckram roll housing architectural plans and contract specifications. The sixteen architectural plans and drawings (20 x 18 1/2"), on a scale of one inch to four feet on cloth, depict the layout of the cellar, the first floor, the second floor, the attic floor, the elevation of the front (with three additional drawings of the front), the first floor framing, the second floor framing, the framing of attic, the framing of the roof, the front elevation framing, the side elevation framing (with one additional drawing), and the rear elevation framing. The first four plans are drawn in color.

The 32 page manuscript on velum paper, held by paper fasteners with written text on front and back, contains the introduction, "Specifications of the material to be furnished and the labor to be performed in the erection and completion of a wooden dwelling house for Mr. L. J. Pratt, on a lot of land in Brattleboro, Vermont, according to a set of drawings prepared by Geo. F. Meacham, Archt, 93 Water Ln, Boston, Mass.," describes the General Conditions, and the details relating to Excavation, Stonework, Underpinning, Drains, Brickwork, Latching and Plastering, Concreting, Slating, Summing and Conductors, Miscellaneous, Description of the Furnace, Timber and Framing, Gutters, Boarding and Floors, Window Frames and Saches, Blinds, Doors, Bells & Speaking Tubes, Partitions Furrings, Stairs, Outside Finish, Inside Finish, Plumbing, Piping, Painting & Glazing, Miscellaneous, and Finally, a note on the quality of materials and the referral to the contractor.

Handwritten contract specifications separated from architectural roll with some remnants of paper at roll; with three partial lines of text still attached to roll, legible. First plan with some rubbing and light foxing, and 1/4 x 3" cut of paper still attached to plan. Some light creasing of plans and manuscript at bottom. Overall in very good condition. George Frederick Meacham (1831-1917), a Harvard Graduate, was an architect noted for his design of Boston's Public Garden, the Massachusetts Bicycle Club, as well as churches, homes, and monuments in greater Boston.
