Rebound in grey buckram, gilt spine title; Several pages with short mended tears, tears not extending into text or illustrations. Dore's tissue-guarded illustrations all clean and sharp. Note: volume weighs about 15lbs., so shipping costs, especially to any overseas destination, may have to be adjusted. From the Gallery page of the website "The World of Dante":"...Finding it difficult to secure a publisher willing to take on the expense of producing the expensive folio edition the artist envisioned, Dor� himself financed the publication of the first book of the series, Inferno, in 1861. The production was an immediate artistic and commercial success. Buoyed by the popularity of Dor�'s edition of the Inferno, Hachette published Purgatorio and Paradiso in 1868 as a single volume...."
