The construction industry is one of the German domestic economy’s key sectors.

In 2019, Germany’s construction industry generated an output of roughly €430 billion; approximately 2 million people had a job in the construction industry proper and in building completion work. The construction industry is extremely important in terms of economic and employment policy, because it is closely interconnected with numerous other industries. 

The Federal Government is in regular dialogue with the collective bargaining partners in the German construction industry, the German Construction Industry Federation, the central association of German construction companies and the Building, Agricultural and Environmental Trade Union (IG BAU).
