Ventana proudly introduces its new sister vineyard, Le Mistral. Founded by Joseph Phelps over ten years ago, this Monterey vineyard is about 10 miles south of the Arroyo Seco in the foot hills outside of King City. Le Mistral is a blend which includes the major grape varieties, or cepages, that have been grown in the Southern Rhone Valley of France for centuries. These include (but are not limited to) Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault and Carignan. We believe there are remarkable similarities between Monterey, California’s wine growing regions and the Southern Rhone Valley, including the blustery afternoon winds for which this Rhone-style wine is named.

| Le Mistral is typically comprised of 60 to 70 percent Syrah and Grenache, and Carignane, Alicante Bouschet and Petite Sirah may also contribute to the balance of the blend, depending on the vintage. The grapes are harvested and the wine is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, and the blend assembled within six months after the harvest. The final blend is then aged for approximately 16 months in new and older French and American oak barrels, followed by a light filtration and bottling the second summer following the harvest. |
