Important Prior Choosing PMU

& After Care

  • Before undergoing a permanent makeup (PMU) procedure, it's important to follow specific instructions to ensure the best possible outcome and minimize any risks of complications. Here are some general guidelines to consider before your PMU appointment:

    1. **Avoid Blood Thinners**: Refrain from taking aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, and certain herbal supplements for at least a week before your procedure, as these can increase bleeding.

    2. **No Alcohol or Caffeine**: Avoid consuming alcohol and caffeine at least 24 hours before your appointment, as they can also thin your blood and affect the healing process.

    3. **Stay Hydrated**: Drink plenty of water leading up to your appointment to ensure your skin is well-hydrated.

    4. **Avoid Sun Exposure**: Stay out of the sun for a few days before your procedure to avoid sunburn. Sunburned or tanned skin can affect the pigment and healing process.

    5. **No Facial Treatments**: Avoid facial treatments such as peels, microdermabrasion, facials, or any aggressive skincare treatments on the area to be treated for at least 2 weeks before your procedure.

    6. **Discontinue Retinoids**: Stop using retinoids or retinol products and other potent anti-aging creams or serums on or around the area to be treated for at least 2 weeks before your procedure.

    7. **No Waxing or Tweezing**: Avoid waxing, tweezing, or threading the area to be treated for at least a few days before your appointment.

    8. **Arrive Makeup-Free**: Come to your appointment without makeup on the area to be treated, if possible. This helps the practitioner to accurately assess your natural features.

    9. **Eat Before Your Appointment**: Have a good meal before your appointment. This can help you feel more comfortable and prevent feeling faint during the procedure.

    10. **Wear Comfortable Clothing**: Choose comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for your appointment, especially items that do not need to be pulled over your face if you are receiving facial PMU.

    11. **Inform Your Technician of Any Medical Conditions**: Provide your PMU artist with a complete medical history, including any allergies, skin conditions, and medications you are taking.

    12. **Consultation**: If you haven't already, schedule a consultation to discuss your desired outcomes, any concerns, and the shape and color you are aiming for with your PMU artist.

These guidelines can vary slightly depending on the specific type of PMU procedure you are getting and your unique circumstances, so it's essential to follow any additional instructions provided by your PMU artist or clinic.

  • Permanent makeup (PMU) can be an excellent option for many individuals seeking to enhance their features and reduce their daily makeup routine. However, not everyone is a suitable candidate for PMU procedures. Here are some conditions and scenarios where someone might be advised against undergoing PMU treatments:

    1. **Pregnant or Nursing**: It's generally recommended to avoid PMU procedures during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to the risk of infection and the lack of information on how the inks/dyes might affect the baby.

    2. **Skin Conditions**: People with certain skin conditions near the treatment area, such as eczema, psoriasis, keratosis pilaris, and dermatitis, may not be good candidates. These conditions can affect how the skin absorbs the pigment and how well the area heals.

    3. **Keloid or Hypertrophic Scarring**: Individuals who have a history of keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring might experience similar issues at the site of the PMU, as the procedure involves making tiny incisions in the skin.

    4. **Blood Disorders**: Conditions that affect blood clotting, such as hemophilia or a history of heavy bleeding, can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising during and after the procedure.

    5. **Compromised Immune System**: Those with weakened immune systems, whether due to an autoimmune disease or medications like immunosuppressants, may have a higher risk of infection and a slower healing process.

    6. **Allergies**: If someone has a history of severe allergies, particularly to pigments, dyes, or metals, they may be at risk of an allergic reaction to the materials used in PMU.

    7. **Medications**: Certain medications, such as blood thinners, can affect bleeding and healing. It’s important to disclose all medications to the practitioner before the procedure.

    8. **Active Skin Conditions**: Individuals with active skin conditions or infections in the treatment area, such as acne, cold sores, or warts, should wait until these conditions are resolved.

    9. **Recent Cosmetic Treatments**: Recent cosmetic treatments, like chemical peels, laser treatments, or certain anti-aging procedures in the area, may require a waiting period before undergoing PMU to avoid complications.

Consultation with a qualified and experienced PMU artist is crucial to evaluate individual circumstances and determine suitability for the procedure. They might ask for a detailed medical history and, in some cases, may request clearance from a healthcare provider.

  • Aftercare Kit

Each appointment includes an aftercare kit containing everything necessary for optimal healing. Following the aftercare instructions during the 10-day healing process is vital for achieving the best results and color retention. Results may vary for individuals, and outcomes cannot be guaranteed.

For eyebrow PMU services, you should gently blot the brows with an antiseptic wipe or the provided ink soap rinse 30 minutes and then two hours after the procedure. This helps remove excess lymph and plasma fluid to prevent scabbing and promote smooth healing. Regular aftercare begins on the first night before bedtime.

Twice daily, in the morning and at night, use a cotton pad with 1-2 pumps of the Ink Soap foam rinse to gently pat the brows. Ensure to clean under natural brow hairs for sterility. After cleansing, apply a small amount of ointment to each brow, similar to a chapstick finish rather than a glossy one. If too much ointment is applied, blot the excess to allow the brows to breathe.

Your artist will provide either an oil-based or water-based aftercare ointment based on your skin type.
