GenXS Carnival, known for its bold and innovative themes, announced on Instagram its 2024 road march theme: "Unleash the Dragon", inspired by the hit HBO fictional series 'Game of Thrones'. To kick off this exciting news, GenXS offered a teaser image and promised a full costume reveal if the photo got to 5000 likes.
Getting the inside scoop, the Glam Hub team caught up with the costume designer Shawn Dhanraj who shared his enthusiasm, stating, "The concept for this piece was drawn from the mystical creatures that are dragons which many stories, movies and television series have been made around. For me the “Game of Thrones” character Khaleesi who is known as “the mother of dragons”, gave of herself, to give the dragons life. She gave of her strength and love, which embodies the spirit of a Woman and a Mother.
Dragons are strong characters rising up the ashes of fiery battles. Stories about dragons have always been centered around reawakening with a “renewed fire” and focus which can be simply described as a rebirth…..Wendamyr." - Shawn Dhanraj
Since achieving 5000 likes in less than 24 hours, social media erupted with anticipation.
Part of GenXS' essence lies in its commitment to storytelling through costume designs. Last year, they celebrated Jamaica's iconic landmarks with their theme "Returning to Paradise," leaving a remarkable impact. Kibwe McGann, GenXS Sponsorship and Marketing Director stated, "After last year's successful entry, we're thrilled to take carnival enthusiasts on a new adventure, one that's hinged on bringing the heat. Our costumes are a reflection of the energy GenXSers bring to the road. "
Jeffery Charles Productions in Port of Spain, Trinidad, is credited with bringing the creative vision to life. The costume is modeled by Achsah Henry, the face of GenXS Carnival in Jamaica, with makeup artistry provided by Amanda, also known as Faces of Bella Rouge, a celebrated Celebrity Makeup Artist from the Carnival Glam Hub Team.
