Inside The Clock - the Newcastle boozer standing the test of time

See 39 images of The Duke of Northumberland - best known by its nickname The Clock - which is one of Newcastle's oldest pubs. Having undergone a revamp in 2019, with cocktails and prosecco added to the menu, it has been attracting a new clientele but it relies upon its loyal regulars who see it as a haven for friends and love its atmosphere on match days. The historic premises in Clayton Street, owned by Malhotra Group, dates from the 1700s and the building was converted from a town house into a pub in its early days. The unseen spaces underneath The Clock include a series of linked rooms with arch ceilings and what appear to be the entrances to blocked-off tunnels. Photos by Craig Connor
