postpartum doula (CPD) support

Meet katie noland

cpd

Hi! I'm Katie, a postpartum doula, certified by the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA). Perhaps my best training for the job, though, comes from having experienced the birth and postpartum period with my four young children over the last decade.

I have always loved babies, and after having my own children, I became deeply passionate about caring for moms and babies in their first few weeks after birth. Every other developed (and underdeveloped!) nation has at least some system in place to help families during their fourth trimester, whether that be through cultural norms, sacred practices, the structure of their healthcare system, or even simply their acknowledgement of what a delicate time the postpartum period is. My goal in doing this important work is to help combat the lack of postpartum care that we have in this country, beginning with the care of you and your baby.

But...what exactly is a postpartum doula? What does a postpartum doula do?

My role is simple: to come into your home and support you in whatever way feels most helpful to you on any given day. If you're feeling exhausted because your newborn was up all night, I can care for your baby so that you can nap (or even just shower!). If you'd like a cozy morning of snuggling or feeding your baby, I can do some light housework, meal prep, bottle/pump washing so that you can enjoy that time with your newborn and not feel the need to hurry up and get to the dishes or laundry that have been piling up. I can also offer emotional support (I love a good birth story, especially if you want to unpack it a bit to process things), and can give some general baby care and feeding tips, or point you towards other resources if you'd like. Essentially, it’s like having your most helpful friend and a personal assistant, all wrapped into one.

Whether this is your first baby or you’ve been around the block before when it comes to newborns, the early days of welcoming a new baby into your life are simply easier when you have help

services Katie provides

There are so many ways that I can support you as you transition to life with a newborn (whether it's your first baby or your fifth!) and I'd love to chat with you to see how I might be of help. My care is typically best used in the first few weeks after bringing baby home, but I can offer support at any point throughout the first 12 weeks.

Some common ways that I may help include:

  • Newborn care

  • Physical support of mother’s recovery

  • Baby care tips and general feeding education

  • Emotional support

  • Bottle & pump parts washing

  • Light housework

  • Meal prep

  • Laundry

  • Providing resources for needs beyond my scope

  • Guidance for partners and care of siblings, if applicable

Work with Katie

Katie was so incredible, and her help was invaluable as a new mom. After my husband had returned back to work it was extremely helpful to know that someone that I trusted was heading over to support my needs for the day. I fully trusted her with taking care of my baby while I showered, relaxed, organized, etc. Katie specifically was a big help with taking care of the baby, laundry, bottle/pump part washing, and just being a support to talk to. I would absolutely recommend her - there will not be anyone better!
