Node (N130): The Bluesound Node (N130) wireless music streamer lets you add BluOS high-resolution multiroom audio to your existing home entertainment system, while giving you access to internet radio and select online music services, Bluetooth & USB audio, as well as your computer's music library over a WiFi network. The Node (N130) wireless music streamer employs a state-of-the-art Quad-Core 1.8ghz ARM Cortex A53 processor and a 24-bit/192kHz premium DAC design to ensure that your high-resolution music playback is flawless with precision and clarity at any volume.

BluOS Wireless High-Resolution Multiroom Audio: The Bluesound Node (N130) is part of the BluOS wireless high-resolution multiroom audio eco-system - consisting of powered speakers, soundbar speakers, amplifiers, players, and hard-drives. The BluOS wireless high-resolution multiroom audio ecosystem uses your home's wired or wireless network to connect multiple Bluesound products and play your music in perfect sync, or different music simultaneously, anywhere in your home. Using advanced technologies, BluOS can wirelessly transmit lossless music up to 24-bit/192kHz at ultra-fast speeds with no lag and zero loss in sound quality.

  • Compatible Multiroom Audio Sources: The following audio sources can be used for multiroom audio playback - internet radio (including TuneIn & iHeart Radio); online music services (including Tidal, Spotify, Amazon, Deezer, Slacker, and Napster); Bluetooth & USB audio, music libraries (from computers and NAS drives); as well as analog & digital inputs (including HDMI & Optical).
  • Number of BluOS Zones: Up to 16 Bluesound devices can be connected in a strictly wireless environment. Demonstrated practice has shown that you can create up to 8 groups of 8 Bluesound devices or 4 groups of 16 Bluesound devices. If you want to connect more than 16 Bluesound devices, you will need to connect the Bluesound devices to your network using a wired connection. BluOS can then control up to 64 devices in a strictly wired environment.

Note: All generations of Bluesound and BluOS products can be used together in a wireless Hi-Res multiroom audio system.

Wired or Wireless Network Connection: The Bluesound Node (N130) can be connected to your home network and Internet provider via a hardwired Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 jack connector or wireless 2.4/5GHz dual-band WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac connection. The 5GHz WiFi band offers a faster and more reliable connection with fewer interruptions and dropouts. Either network/internet connection allows you to stream music libraries from your Windows or Mac computer and NAS drive (such as the Bluesound Vault 2i, sold separately); as well as stream select online music services and internet radio.

  • Wired Ethernet Setup: A wired connection to the network is simple and requires no setup. If you wish to use the wired connection, simply connect the Node (N130) directly to your router or home network using an Ethernet cable (sold separately).
  • Wireless WiFi Setup: A wireless connection allows you to place your BluOS Player virtually anywhere inside your home, but does require setup through the BluOS app on your Apple iOS or Android device. If you are on a Windows PC (7/8/10) or Apple Mac, you'll use Bluesound's web browser based application. You'll be walked you through the set-up process step-by-step.

Notes:

  • A wireless network router will always be required for the BluOS Controller App.
  • Bluesound exclusively utilizes the 2.4GHz wireless band when connecting to a Wireless-N router.

High Resolution Audio: High-resolution audio tracks are either 24-bit/96kHz or 24-bit/192kHz, and contain up to 6.5x more data than standard CDs, letting you hear all the detail of your favorite music in superior quality. With full support for hi-res audio, you can stream WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, WMA-Lossless, MQA music files over your home's WiFi network or directly from a connected USB mass storage class device. The Bluesound system also supports compressed music files such as MP3, AAC, WMA and OGG. Bluesound also offers gapless playback by default for all supported file music types.

Compression File Type Sampling Frequency Bit Rate or Bit Depth
Compressed Lossy MP3 16-48kHz 192-320 kbps
WMA
AAC

FLAC 192 kHz up to 24-bit
ALAC
MQA

Customer Q&A

48 questions already asked

Q
My question is about the 12volt trigger output voltage. I want to connect this to my AudioSource Architect P2660 multichannel amplifier for my home. The AudioControl amplifier needs a 5volt signal to remain on vs go into standby. Does anyone know the output voltage?
joseph  Feb 25, 2024
1 answer
A
The output voltage for the accessory turn-on feature is 12-volts, Joseph. This should work well for use with the Node or Node X and can be used with the turn-on features on the AudioControl Architect P2660 multi-channel amplifiers 12-volt turn on input. Make sure to order the Hosa Mono 3.5mm cable in the link below to connect, as one is not provided with the Node. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_979CMM305/Hosa-Mono-3-5mm-Cable.html

Q
Can the Node be connected to a Denon DRA-800H HEOS receiver via RCA cables in order to stream TIDAL MQA or their 24/192khz tracks to the DRA-800H main zone and 2 HEOS Links in other rooms? Airplay is not an option as the HEOS links do not support it from what I have found. Thanks in advance.
john  Oct 07, 2023
1 answer
A
I see no reason why not, John. If you wanted to use the Bluesound NODE to stream Tidal through the RCA inputs of the DRA-800H, you would see a slightly improved sound quality on your main zone's wired speakers vs. using HEOS to stream your Tidal direct to the Denon. Since the 800H is no longer available at Crutchfield, you could consider the DRA-900H model in the link below! You can send the audio from the same analog input (same source) as your main zone to your HEOS Links in other rooms, but you will be at a 16-bit/44.1kHz with GEN 1 HEOS links, and 24-bit/192kHz with GEN 2 HEOS links. IF you have a Connect button for Bluetooth near the network port on the rear of your Link, then it is the HS2 version. I hope this helps! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_033DRA900H/Denon-DRA-900H.html

I have a Bluesound Vault in one room. If I buy a Node for a different room, could I access the Vault's library?
robin  Aug 13, 2023
1 answer
A
That is correct, Robin. With the Bluesound NODE installed you can access the music stored onto your Bluesound Vault 2 or 2i, using NODE or multiple NODE's is a great way to enjoy that better than CD quality ripped CD's stored on the Vault in other zones! This is all controlled through your BluOS app. https://www.crutchfield.com/S-IsfRwGDQNHW/p_813NODEBK/Bluesound-NODE-Black.html

Hi, I was wondering if this is a better streamer for music, esp YouTube, than the panasonic dp 820 dvd player or the invidia shield pro? Also, I'm currently running it into my Marantz av10 processor. would I just use an hdmi cable for that connection? Thanks in advance!
phil  Jun 29, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Phil, and thank you for your question. On paper the DAC in the Bluesound is better at 32/384, than the DAC chip in the Panasonic at 32/192. What we are not going to do is run a side by side. As far are Invidia, not sure what they are doing as we dont have their products. The HDMI on the Bluesound is an input, not an output. That would be used for connecting to a TVs ARC. The AV 10 has HEOS so honestly you dont need to add a second streamer, and the AV 10 should have more than capable DACs to handle hi-res streaming.

There is not yet support for iTunes or Apple Music within the BluOS app, Ken. When using the node for iTunes you can link directly to the unit with Airplay 2 and enjoy your iTunes playlists without using the BluOS app.

What is best way to connect the Blue sound NODE to a Rotel RA 1592ii ? The Rotel "does not" have an ARC connection. It has optical, digital, etc. So, do I connect the ARC from the Bluesound to the TV ARC? Then, Bluesound optical OUT to the optical in on the Rotel ? If the Rotel had ARC only then would I be getting the very best audio bandwidth, correct ? Any optical to the Rotel will have it's limits as far as bandwidth, correct ? Much thanks ! Ron S.
ronald  Mar 31, 2023
1 answer
A
Correct, there is no ARC connection on the Rotel, the ARC connection on the Node is really meant to connect to a TV. You will want to use the HDMI ARC on the Node to connect to the HDMI ARC on your TV. You will then want to go from the optical out on the Node to the optical in on the Rotel. We would love to talk with you in more detail about the connections and signal path if you'd like to give us a call at 1-800-324-9695.

re the bluesound node- i currently use my streamer for Radio Paradise. Will the node get the lossless audio stream(or MQA) stream from Radio Paradise.?
barry  Mar 11, 2023
1 answer
A
Great question, Ben. The Bluesound NODE does support MQA (up to 24-bit). The Bluesound app is limited to the streaming sources supported by the app, however. I would check to see if Radio Paradise is specifically available in the Tune In internet radio app, as that would be the only way to stream to the Node. If it is not, then it could be difficult to stream that exact source to the Bluesound NODE with the full supported resolution. I hope this helps!

Can I use a Node to play music from an external hard drive without a computer connected to the external hard drive? It says I could put a USB stick in the USB port, isn't this basically the same thing?
michael  Feb 13, 2023
1 answer
A
It is similar, but not the exact same Michael. The easiest way would be to connect your external hard drive to ANY computer on your network and access through the BluOS app. If you do not have any computers on your network, the USB thumb drive is the best option. External hard drives CAN be used with the NODE's USB port, but any USB hard disk drives that require more than 0.5A of power will require a separate power supply.

How would you connect this so that you would bypass the internal DAC? I primarily stream from Tidal and want to be sure that I can stream 24/192. My amp has a much better built in DAC.

If you want to bypass the internal DAC you would want to use one of the digital outputs which would be the optical or the coaxial output.

Q
Hi, I have a question about synchronized playback (playing the same music at the same time on multiple playback systems). I know that if I have 2 Bluesound and/or Nad components that support BluOs and I use their built-in dacs, I can keep playback synchronized. My question is what if I have 2 non-BluOs dacs connected by coax to 2 BS Nodes - can BluOs still keep them in sync? Or do the dacs have to be under the control of BluOs to stay synchronized? Thanks.
justcurious  Dec 03, 2022
1 answer
A
These DAC's have to be built-in to BlueOS gear to support synchronized playback, ZZ. BluOS cannot adjust for the delay in other third-party DACs as the BluOS system uses your Wi-fi to sync internal clocks together. If you want the best playback with no echo/latency you'll need to go with DAC's built into BluOS gear. I hope this helps!

If you already have an NAD integrated amp that can take on the BluOS module, why might you get this instead? Are the module and the node just the same thing with a different price and form factor, or are there more reasons to get the Node instead?
alex m  Nov 15, 2022
1 answer
A
These will be the exact same conduit to your BlueOS ecosystem, Alex. IF you have a need for the dual USB ports on the NAD MDC BluOS-2i MDC module there could be a potential benefit there. The real advantage would be that the NODE can play just about any digital music you might have in your collection, including high-resolution files up to 32-bit/384kHz. As far as my understanding, the listed specs on the MDC modules appear to have 24-bit 192K as the maximum file resolution. If you are fine with that and you already have a NAD unit that can take the MDC module sometimes that can make more sense, but if you are preferring a stand-alone component then the Node is the move! I hope this helps Alex.

I use Amazon HD music streaming. Does this product stream directly from Amazon? The Cambridge counter part does not. If it does does it stream in full HD quality? Amazon has Ultra HD and Ultra HD 360 atmos. Does the Node stream in all the qualities that Amazon has?
pablo  Apr 27, 2022
3 answers
A
Node plays Amazon HD at full quality, no problem. The node is 2-channel, so Atmos will be reduced. Last I checked, Amazon Atmos content was only compatible with one of their echo speakers. Not sure why you would want atmos from an echo, but to each their own. I went with Tidal for Atmos, since it works with Amazon's Firestick and I can send that signal to my Marantz 7015 5.2.4 set-up.
stephen  Apr 27, 2022
A
According to the Details page for the Node: "With the addition of Amazon Music HD, you will now be able to play Ultra HD music (24-bit/48kHz to 192kHz) on supported Bluesound devices from the BluOS App when choosing Amazon Music." There is no mention of Ultra HD 360 atmos. The settings for Amazon Music in the BluOS app allow you to enter your credentials, so I would assume that it streams music directly to the device. In my experience, most music services stream directly to the Node, except when using AirPlay or Bluetooth.
andrew  Apr 27, 2022

The Bluesound node will stream directly from the Amazon app and I have listened at Ultra HD quality through the node. Not sure about Atmos but the Ultra HD sounds amazing.

A
yes. the node has analog outputs just like a cd player would.
chris  Apr 27, 2022
A
Yes, you should be able to connect thr Node through any of the RCA inputs on your receiver.
thomas  Apr 27, 2022
A
The Node can be hooked to any receiver with an available analog input with RCA Interconnects or digital input with an RCA Coaxial cable or Toslink Cable. Given that your receiver is old, you will get the best sound through an analog connection as the DAC in the Node is new and very good! I do not know what receiver you have but if you have an auxiliary analog input or Tape Play or CD input, you will be fine. Get a decent pair of RCA Interconnect cables!
clarence  Apr 27, 2022
A
Yes. I am using Line 1 of the audio input jacks on my 9 year old Yamaha 2 channel integrated amp. Have had no problems with the Node connected this way.
james  Apr 27, 2022
A
Absolutely. Just use your aux input (assuming you have one. Otherwise you can use CD input. Will work like a charm.
scott  Apr 26, 2022
A
Yes. The real question is do you want to use the dac in the node or an external dac. The node has an rca out (should connect to an input for, say, cd). That would be using the internal dac. Or you can use an external Dac (or in your receiver, if available).
david l  Apr 26, 2022
A
Yes. Just use analog rca stereo cables to connect the Node to the receiver. There should be several inputs on the receiver (example: auxiliary input) available to use.
timothy  Apr 26, 2022
Q
Has anyone used the Sub-woofer out on the back of the Node or is it better to connect Sub directly out of your amp? Thanks.
charles  Mar 28, 2022
2 answers
A
The subwoofer out is line level, not speaker level so it won't power a subwoofer. But most subs are powered with their own internal amp so probably isn't an issue. If you are using the node with other powered speakers, then using the sub out to a powered sub would be fine. If you are connecting the node to a receiver, which powers your speakers, then use the sub outputs on the receiver so it will power all the speakers.
gary  Apr 07, 2022
A
Ive not tried the sub out on the bluesound node, so I'm sorry to not be much help here but my guess is, it would be better to connect your sub to your receiver or amp as you'll have much more power going through your receiver/amp. but one way is to give both a try and see which you might prefer

The second one. You will use your iPad to choose your music and send the stream to the Node either using the Tidal Connect feature in the Tidal app or by using the BluOS app. I always use Tidal Connect and use the BluOS app for other streaming services such as Amazon.
thomas  Mar 27, 2022
A
You will need a device (iPad, smartphone or tablet) to run the bluesOS app. You then log into tidal through the bluesOS app to stream via Wi-Fi. Hope this helps.
daniel  Mar 27, 2022
A
You can operate Tidal either using the Tidal app through Tudal connect or by using the Bluesound app. The music streams through the WiFi network your Bluesound Node is connected to. Some officious advice: Though I like the Node, it's DAC is poor. I would buy a Topping, Gustard, Matrix or some other high-quality DAC. That's assuming Bluesound has fixed the bugs with its USB output -- or you don't care to use USB output to a DAC.
ron  Mar 27, 2022
A
The iPad is used to control the Bluesound app that will be linked to your tidal account. Tidal will stream directly to the node on your wifi
harry  Mar 27, 2022
A
Yep, you'll still need to use either the Tidal or Bluesound app to command the Node. But the stream will be initiated/handled directly by the Node, and not from whatever device your app is on. Also, if you set up the presets on the node you can bypass using an app and just go straight to the preset/favorites buttons on the node itself. You can save presets for things like Tidal playlists, XM Sirius stations, etc.
christian  Mar 27, 2022
A
Hey Barry! Unfortunately you'll still need a smart device (iphone, ipad etc) to control the streams. However I believe this is compatible with siri and apple home so you can potentially control it with your voice instead of reaching for your device. The node is a great player though! Best of luck! -M

It does support aptx, but using Bluetooth with this device sort of defeats the purpose of this device. I have not used it that way, but I think it would work. It can be set up to have a variable output so that would take care of your volume. Then you could use its ability as a network music streamer to deliver sound to your amp. It has Bluetooth and Airplay2 so you could stream music that way as well. There is also a 3.5 mm mini jack input on the front and back so you could attach a source that way. In addition in the settings there are EQ settings so you could adjust Treble and Bass, and there is a subwoofer output.
