Has anyone tried "Truvy's" recipe from Steel Magnolias...

Cuppa-Cuppa-Cuppa (a cup of sugar, a cup of flour, a cup of fruit cocktail with the juice, mix it and bake 'til brown; serve over vanilla ice cream to cut the sweetness???

If so, at what Temperature and what kind of pan?

What did you think of it?

Watched it again today. I'm sure I have watched it over 100 times now and I still CRY like a baby then laugh my assets off...I love this film... :p

You know, I've always wanted to try that myself, but keep forgetting.. Not a lot of ingredients, so I'm thinking it might go in an 8x8 pan and I think I would use the temperature setting of a regular box mix, but check it often..

If you try it before I do, let me know how it turns out..

I LOVE that movie too - what a great mix - heartwrenching sobs and hysterical laughter.. It's my all-time favorite! :thumbsup2

Try 375 for about 45 minutes or so. By 30 minutes start keeping a close eye on it.

The recipe I use is a 1/2 stick of butter, 1 cup milk, 1/2 cup sugar (or 1 cup if the fruit isn't too sweet already) and one cup flour. Melt the butter in a med size pan, dump in the fruit (1-2 cups) then mix the other ingredients and poor over the top. It is delicious!

I've always wanted to try it too!!! I found this online.....

This is one of my family's favorite recipes and I love it because it only has 3 ingredients and I got it off of one of my favorite movie "Steel Magnolias"

Cuppa Cuppa

1 14oz. can fruit cocktail do not drain
1 cup of flour
1 cup of sugar

In baking dish put fruitcocktail and its juice add sugar and then flour stir too mix put in a 375 degree oven bake until the top is golden brown. serve with icecream or whipped cream. This is a great recipe to have on hand in case of unexpected company and can be doubled easily

Beth...thanks for the directions.

I'm such a bad cook that I needed something that even I could not screw up :lmao:

I make this one all the time too! I make it with peaches, use an 8x8 pan, and bake at 400 for 30 minutes. The dough is so sweet and crispy around the edges...

Don't forget the ice cream!

Wow, I thought that was a big joke. I love that movie and can recite the dialog almost word for word. Will have to try that. :teeth:

LOVE the movie! I like it so much I got the book to read, too. It is a play, based on a true story, written by the girl's brother, Robert Harling (Dramatists Play Service, Inc., ISBN # 0-8222-1078-9).
