Longtime El Paso television meteorologist Chuck DeBroder is no longer at Channel 9-KTSM, station officials said Wednesday.

DeBroder's departure follows an uneven appearance on the 10 p.m. Sunday newscast in which DeBroder appeared stiff and had difficulty pronouncing some words. He blamed his delivery on an allergic reaction.

DeBroder was one of El Paso's best-known local television personalities and had been with KTSM since 1995.

KTSM News Director Elizabeth O'Hara confirmed DeBroder was no longer at the station. She declined further comment.

"We decided to go in a different direction. We are not at liberty to discuss it. We wish him well, that’s about it," said David Candelaria, KTSM's general manager.

Candelaria said he couldn't discuss whether Sunday's broadcast was a factor in DeBroder's departure.

A viewer on Monday tweeted at DeBroder that "your 10pm weather was hilarious last nite."

DeBroder responded in a tweet stating, "Yes ... I had allergic reaction to medication and went to the hospital after newscast. I eventually lost all motor control."

DeBroder could not be reached for comment.

DeBroder had posted the KTSM weather forecast as recently as Monday night on his Facebook page.

DeBroder won "Best TV Hair" among El Paso television personalities in the local "What's Up" magazine in 2011.

According to El Paso Times archives, DeBroder came to El Paso in 1995 from Channel 11-KCBD in Lubbock.

DeBroder has a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology from Metropolitan State College in Denver and a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcasting/public relations from the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo, Times archives state.

DeBroder's biography on the KTSM website mentions that he also is a hypnotherapist.
