Upon arrival in the U.S, some anglicized the name to Scafide. The highest concentration of Scafidi’s live in the area of Palermo province on the island of Sicily. The concentration of Scafidi’s on Sicily correlates with the heavy Greek influence on the island prior to the Punic wars and the conquest of the Romans. However, the name does not persist on main land Greece. This leads to the thought that Scafidi may be a name that is native to the island of Sicily. Further, if this is the case, there is a great possibility that most Scafidi’s may be related in the recent past.
