Can you guys give me the breakdown of all mondials made by type for all years? Doesn't seem like that many... Robb
About 6,000 total according to Wikipedia. Ferrari Mondial - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I have seen more detailed breakdowns but do not have the links ready at hand. But this might be a good place to start.
Here's a useful table view I found some time ago showing production numbers by model. Cant vouch for 100% accuracy, but seems to reflect other figures I've heard. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have given the factory figures breakdown by year and models about two months ago. As for numbers imported in the United States, take thirty per cent as a ballpark. Rgds
Robb, In my humble opinion, I'd break it down like this: Mondial 8: the very first, raw Mondial, pretty exclusive. Mondial 3.0 QV: the rarest version of the Mondial (cabriolet). Mondial 3.2: the ultimate all rounder, very balanced between the two extremes (the 8 and the T). No need for engine out servicing for the last time. Mondial T: the latest, most advanced and civilized version (300hp versus the early 214hp of the 8). All in all, whatever version you choose, you can't go wrong with a Mondial! Kind regards, Nuno.
I just purchased an 85 QV Coupe in Blu Sera I read somewhere that only 69 Coupes were imported into North America. Is that true? Does anyone have a breakdown by color and year? Thanks Sid
Thanks guys and gals. Great soft spot in my heart for the Mondial. Growing up in the 80's of course. I like the 3.2 because of the bumpers and pointed rear qtr vents. I'd love to add one someday. We'll see how it goes. Robb
Robb, Should you find a worthy Mondial that fits your bill and if you have any doubts and/or questions, please let us know. We're here to help and I'll be more than happy to scavenge through my maintenance records to help! Kind regards, Nuno.
It would be interesting also to estimate how many Mondials are surviving today. What would be the percentage of wrecked and parted Mondial? Can we go as far as 30-40% ?
It's always going to be speculative, but I'd say that's about right. People love driving high performance cars like they've just stolen them, hence a lot of wrecked cars for parts. I regularly check Eurospares for wrecked cars, and they receive a fresh batch of them every month. A lot of classics there, it just breaks my heart. And by a lot, I really mean A LOT. Cars that are rare and valuable. What I mean is: there might be actually a lot less Mondials out there than we think. I think that if we ever reached a definitive number of how many survived, we'd be pretty surprised. Kind regards, Nuno.
+1 I can't tell you how many Mondials I have seen in my lifetime that were junked for parts. Probably more than actual running ones, sadly. Too bad we can't pin point the exact number of survivors.
The Mondial map of owners in the other thread is a cool start to finding the survivors. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/mondial/436449-mondial-map-mondial-owners.html Also, is there anyone that has created a registry or database of Mondials? Sid
The number of survivors will also be a function of market price. What is junked or parted today can all of a sudden be recovered and restored tomorrow. The degree of intactness of the various "junked for parts" cars would also need to be included in any census. Thus there would be some significant value in having the most accurate and detailed private list.
Am I reading the chart correctly that there were more coupes than cabriolets made until the "t" model? It seems like I see more cabriolets for sale. I always assumed there were fewer coupes made.
My numbers are: 8: 703 units (all coupes). 3.0 QV: 1,143 coupes 629 cabriolets 1,772 units in total. 3.2: 987 coupes 810 cabriolets 1,797 units in total. T: 858 coupes 1,017 cabriolets 1,875 units in total. Production totals (1980-1993): 6,147 units. Minus 40% (wrecks): roughly 3,688 survivors in the world today (which may mean that nowadays the 8 and the 3.0 QV cabriolet may not be the rarest Mondials). Kind regards, Nuno. EDIT - Another thing that may point in the direction of much less Mondials out there than we think: https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=831366 Just 143 Mondial entries worldwide.
Those numbers are for total production i.e. global market. Including all models and years, 1110 cabs for the US but we received even fewer Coupes (345). The rarest US Coupe was the first, 1981 Mondial 8 (11) and the rarest Cab was the last, 1993 t (23). Search for F-Chat member EnzoNZ for his posts/numbers (my source). Although, by now, many of these have been sent off to the recyclers, some Euro cars have been imported as well (like mine).
Well, we were talking about models, not options. But, consider this; 1988 SA Spec black 3.2 Coupe - One of one.
Am I reading this correct then, out of 703 total Mondial 8's, (11) of those were shipped into the US as US Spec cars?
Yes, that's the data I have from EnzoNZ. And 136 for 1982. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/mondial/106999-how-many-mondial-coupes-us.html A few 81s listed here (US and Euro): https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/search.php?searchid=8545885
Sweet! That is an informative list. I own a 1 of 136!!! Doubt I'll have such a low production model again in my lifetime
