On November 25, 2013, Assistant Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang summoned the Japanese Ambassador to China Masato Kitera, and lodged a solemn protest against Japan's unwarranted accusations of China's establishment of the East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). Zheng Zeguang pointed out that the Chinese government's establishment of the East China Sea ADIZ is to safeguard the national sovereignty and security of China's territory and airspace, and to maintain flight order over the East China Sea, which is in line with the international laws and customs. Since the 1950s, more than twenty countries including Japan have established ADIZs successively. The Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands have been part of China's inherent territory since ancient times. Therefore, it is reasonable that China's East China Sea ADIZ covers this area. Japan has no right to make irresponsible remarks and deliberate attacks towards China's legitimate action which is in line with the international law. China urges Japan to correct its mistakes at once, stop the unwarranted accusations against China and all other remarks and actions that cause friction and regional instability, so as not to further damage the China-Japan relations.
