Castle Thillombois is located on the town of the same name, in the Meuse, 30 km south of Verdun.
The estate was originally a vast castle built in the twelfth century whose owners also owned the castle Jarny in Meurthe-et-Moselle.
In the seventeenth century, when the Thirty Years War ravaged the current Lorraine, the castle of Thillombois suffered major damage, only a tower and a wing being saved while mercenaries ravage the surrounding villages.
Restoration sites are initiated, then, during the Revolution, the site is again looted.
It was not until the last quarter of the nineteenth century that the castle was the subject of a major campaign and that it is conferred its current face, in a Renaissance style (including a new main building).
With a beautiful park, the estate welcomes in the 1960s a holiday camp center and after a period of desertion, it is acquired in 2010 by a cultural association.
Listed as a historical monument in 1995, the Thillombois castle hosts performances throughout the year, fun and cultural events and private receptions.
The sumptuously furnished interior is not visited but the park is open to the public free of charge all year (except when the site is "privatized").
