Tulip festival, Cinco de Mayo and a 3-story go-kart track: 5 things to do this weekend

Metro Detroit offers a diverse array of activities to enjoy this weekend. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with vibrant festivities, embark on a thrilling adventure at the grand opening of a three-story go-kart attraction, take a leisurely stroll through enchanting fields of tulips, explore a large antique festival or discover the world of ceramics in Plymouth.

Here are five things to do for the weekend of May 3-5:

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta and Parade

The Mexican Patriotic Committee of Metro Detroit has organized a vibrant two-day fiesta for the 59th Cinco de Mayo celebration in southwest Detroit. The theme is “La Historia de Southwest Detroit,” which honors the diverse cultures from various Latin American countries that contribute to the local Hispanic community.

Festivities will include musicians and mariachi performers, food trucks, vendors, community resources and family-friendly activities.

Attendees can also look forward to performances by Grupo Nueva Herencia, Alexandra Velasco-Cruz, Mauro Cruz y Los Invitados, Mexicana Raices, Mexican folkloric dance performances by Ballet Folklorico, Southwest Championship Wrestling matches and Los Astros. Miss Mexico, Daniela Diaz, and her court will be emceeing the entertainment line-up on both days.

The Annual Cinco de Mayo Parade will take place at noon on Sunday. The procession begins at Patton Park (corner of Woodmere Street and West Vernor Highway) and concludes at Clark Park (corner of Scotten Stree and West Vernor Highway). The parade will showcase schools, charros, businesses, community leaders and local organizations.

The fiesta takes place 12-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the corner of 21st and Bagley Street in Detroit.

C.J. Barrymore’s Indy SkyTrack Grand Opening Weekend

C.J. Barrymore's, a 25-acre family entertainment center known for its array of attractions including go karts, drop towers, a saddle sling, a ferris wheel, bowling, an arcade and more, is set to unveil its newest thrill: the Indy SkyTrack.

The grand opening of the Indy SkyTrack at C.J. Barrymore's will take place May 3 at 8 p.m.

The 30-foot-tall vortex is an addition to the state's amusement landscape, promising adventure for thrill-seekers. The three-story go-kart journey along a 1,500-foot-long track, complete with twists, turns and adrenaline-pumping excitement reaches heights of 30 feet and speeds of 18-20 miles per hour.

The grand opening of the Indy SkyTrack opens to the public at 8 p.m. Friday, 21750 Hall Road in Clinton Township. $12. The park is currently open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It will be open seven days a week starting June 3.

Michigan Antique Festival

Explore the Michigan Antique Festival, where antique enthusiasts, collectors, and gift seekers can immerse themselves in a world of nostalgia. This event, now in its 55th year, will feature over 400 dealers offering a selection of vintage finds and one-of-a-kind treasures. From heirloom furniture to delicate porcelain, vintage clothing to unique jewelry, visitors can discover timeless pieces that tell stories of the past.

There will also be a classic car show, food trucks and live entertainment.

8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at Springfield Oaks County Park, 12451 Andersonville Road in Davisburg. Admission is $10, and children 11 and under are free.

Tulip Festival

Embark on a delightful farm adventure at DeBuck’s Family Farm Tulip Festival, where you can immerse yourself in a sea of vibrant colors as you stroll through tulip fields and enjoy more than 25 activities.

There will be food, beverages, flowers and donuts available for purchase.

The festival runs through May 5 at DeBuck’s Family Farm, 50240 Martz Road in Belleville. Tickets start at $15.95 and are only sold online. Children ages 23 months and younger are free. No tickets will be sold at the gate.

Village Potters Guild Annual Spring Market

The Village Potters Guild of Plymouth will be hosting its annual sale, showcasing creations by artist members as well as invited guest artists. Explore a diverse range of decorative ceramics available for purchase, along with original fine art pieces including paintings, jewelry and more.

10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at 326 N. Main St. in Plymouth.
