Good Harvest has a unique, dual mission of expanding access to healthy food to underserved members of our community while also providing job training in the food service industry for those with barriers to employment.

We specialize in partnering with community-based agencies that care for individuals in group settings, including children served by Head Start, daycare, afterschool, summer camps, and adults served by shelters, adult daycare programs, and senior centers.

Our History

Good Harvest was founded in 2010 under the name KidzTable as a non-profit social enterprise of St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore with a primary mission to expand health food access for low-income children.

 

The enterprise adopted a national best practice model called FareStart from Seattle, Washington and included a food service job training component for individuals with barriers to employment. In the early days, the social enterprise operated out of a small basement kitchen rented from a church in the Park Heights community and produced 500 meals a day, focusing on pre-school children served by Head Start programs.

Word spread quickly about the high quality, nutritious meals being produced, and within 18 months the enterprise had tripled its daily production and urgently needed a new facility to keep up with the demand for its services. In just six months St. Vincent de Paul identified a new facility to rent, raised $1.2M, and completed the necessary renovations to create a modern and well-equipped central kitchen and training facility located at its present site in East Baltimore, close to the Rosedale area.

To reflect the broader range of populations served, in 2020 the enterprise re-branded itself from the name KidzTable to Good Harvest Community Kitchen. Good Harvest remains a non-profit, social enterprise of St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore with a unique, dual mission of expanding access to healthy food to underserved members of our community, while also providing job training in the food services industry for those with barriers to employment. We look forward to continuing to evolve and develop our services in response to community needs, making our community a better place for everyone.

By 2012 the enterprise was producing close to 2,000 meals a day, serving 40 different sites that included afterschool and summer programs, while training 60 adults a year for career employment in the food services industry. Over the years, the enterprise steadily increased its reach, expanding access to healthy meals for low income children and youth at over 100 sites in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and other surrounding counties.

In 2016 the enterprise began serving children and adults in shelters and participants in adult day care programs. In more recent years, the enterprise has further expanded to serve seniors and other special populations in group settings, and currently close to half of the 5,000 meals produced each day are for adults.

Meet Anthony

Married with two small children, Anthony Bryant wanted to give his family the best life possible. Deep down, he knew being a delivery driver would not fulfill that desire. He had dreams of becoming a chef, but did not have an opportunity to pursue his passion until he found Next Course, our food service training program at Good Harvest.
