This book continues the authors concern about the invisible but deep impact of the technological imperative - the obsession that everything has a technical-rational conceptual-data base and can be understood in an abstract-artificial context of a pure thought reality. This obsession shields the human from the natural organic reality of existence which, at one time, included nature-earth-experience and the human as a macrocosm, or universe in miniature. This connectedness has been lost in the new techno-science perspective, and along with it the loss of vision and awareness which are the true foundations of human existence. We have created a miraculous culture during the post-axial age, but all is not right with our progress which focuses on having and knowing but lacks contentment and the awareness of connectedness, that is, the mystical and holistic sense of being. Instead of sacred time and the sense of the earth as a live organism and nature as our mother, we rely on clock time, past & future and are not able to realize the essence of life is in the eternal now. We have lost the "Web of Life" feeling of nature and the meta-narrative guide to meaning in our technical-rational culture. There are ways of becoming more aware of the cosmic unity - micro-macro-cosmic-unity - through personal connections based on wellness, mindfulness, and direct experience that would restore our sense of the seamless nature of existence. The author focuses on the Native Way of Seeing and the Tao-Chan-Zen way of life as awareness-awakening in the here and now. The New Science - of Synchronicity shows a deep and cosmic coherence, and this is good, but the personal-cosmic connectedness with the human as a microcosm will be based on direct experience and a mindfulness that will deepen awareness-as-awakening, and this will place us in a placetime that the author calls "Being On Ouachita Mountain Time," that is in a mystical and holistic relationship with place and time - here and now - with a deepened sense, not just knowledge or having ideas, of human existence.
