Step into the world of Genmaicha, a specialty Japanese-style green tea that combines the freshness of high-grade Japan Sencha with the distinctive allure of fire-toasted rice. This unique blend offers a delightful fusion of flavors and a captivating drinking experience.

When you sip Genmaicha, you'll notice the fresh vegetative character of the green tea, which infuses the cup with its vibrant essence. However, it is the bakey-like character of the toasted rice that adds a delightful twist, tempering the tea's vegetal notes and creating a harmonious balance. The result is a tea with a natural sweetness and a finish that can be described as almost chewy, leaving a lingering and satisfying impression.

Legend has it that the origins of Genmaicha can be traced back to a fateful incident during the 1400s in Hakone, on the Izu Peninsula of Honshu Island in Japan. As an important samurai warlord was discussing battle strategies with his patrol leaders over morning tea, a servant named Genamai accidentally dropped rice from his pocket into the warlord's steaming cup. Some of the rice grains popped upon contact with the hot tea.

Enraged, the warlord unsheathed his samurai sword and swiftly beheaded Genamai. However, curious about the unique flavor that resulted from this unexpected mishap, the warlord decided to taste the tea. To his surprise, he found it to be remarkably enjoyable and distinct. In honor of the unfortunate servant, the warlord declared that this rice and tea blend should be served every morning, naming it 'Genmaicha' (with "cha" meaning "tea" in Japanese).

Embrace the legacy and taste the charm of Genmaicha, often affectionately referred to as 'popcorn tea' due to the occasional popping of the rice during the toasting process. As you sip this captivating blend, allow the flavors to transport you to ancient Japan, where tradition and legend converge to create a tea that embodies a unique cultural heritage.
