Contemporary calf, rebacked in period style, blind rules to boards, blind fillets along joints, lettering piece, gilt-edged raised bands, and gilt ornaments to spine, gilt fillets to board edges, hinges mended. A few negligible nicks and scratches to boards, light rubbing to extremities, corners bumped, early armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Light toning to text, faint dampstaining in places, limited mostly to margins, light soiling and early owner signature (James Alexander) to title page.
