It's been a month since Elon Musk laid off Tesla's charging team, and now we're learning how other #EVcharging companies are taking up the slack. I spoke to lots of charging execs for this story. The answer: they're hiring Tesla castoffs and grabbing Tesla's real estate. Here's some other top findings: - Tesla's retreat has opened up the vaunted Tesla #Supercharger network to a new line of attack: Unreliability. Not unreliable in the sense of not providing electrons - Tesla's still good at that - but unreliable as a business partner. As Sara Rafalson at EVgo told me, her company is seeking out Tesla site hosts “who might want a more reliable partner.” - We have ex-Tesla people actually landing at other firms. Revel has hired Edward Noseworthy as a charging exec, and EnviroSpark Energy Solutions has hired a dozen people. - Tesla is still participating in the federal #NEVI effort to build a network of highway charging stations. Just yesterday, Wisconsin announced that Tesla will build two of its stations. (h/t Loren McDonald) Thank you to David Jankowsky, Aaron Luque, MBA, Andy Bennett, Anthony Lambkin, Desmond Wheatley, Michael D. Farkas, Marc Coltelli, Thomas Martin and others who spoke to me for this story.
