“The Metro Drug Coalition hosted its seventh annual East Tennessee Opioid Conference in Lenoir City today, covering a range of topics from current and emerging trends to how pain doctors are helping patients without the use of opiates. The opioid crisis in East Tennessee is one that has been around for some time now and the purpose of today’s conference was to share findings from the last year. This year's conference is the largest it has ever been. One of the big presentations today was from Dr. James Choo with Pain Consultants of East Tennessee, who talked about different ways to treat pain without relying on the use of opioids.” The East Tennessee Opioid Conference has been a great way for professionals to stay up to date about emerging trends and discuss alternatives to opioids. Loved ones of patients new to recovery may be overly excited about the recovery process. We advise loved ones that this is still a new time in the patient’s life, and the excitement and pride may be overwhelming at first. As patients transition back to society, encourage loved ones to be themselves and treat the patient as they always would.
