Studies show that 80% of people who go to therapy find it helpful. The problem is, not everyone has the time or financial resources to participate in traditional mental health therapy (i.e., weekly, 50-minute appointments). This is exactly why we created an additional therapy service. Introducing Mini Sessions: a targeted, brief, and solution-focused therapy track at The Psychology Group. Mini Sessions are 30-minute appointments for about half the price of our traditional services. They can be held in-person or online to anyone physically located in Florida. The aim of Mini Sessions is to give you support & tools that can be applied immediately. This is not a therapy app or AI. Nor is it a Big Tech therapy platform. Our group of talented therapists is your neighborhood therapy practice. If you've been thinking about starting therapy, or if you’ve tried one of the many therapy apps out there with little success, this is a great opportunity to receive therapy with a trusted, highly rated, local, psychology group. Say goodbye to Big Tech online-only platforms and give Mini Sessions a try. With such little commitment of time and resources, anyone can get started today. Schedule your first mini session by scheduling a callback by at the link below. 👇 https://lnkd.in/eDt6eDje #therapy #psychology #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealth #busyprofessionals

After moving my eldest daughter into her dorm and feeling I had done all the “right things” to prepare her, I got in my very empty car and sobbed. I literally remember feeling my heart hurt. “Ouch, how am I going to do this?” I wondered. Then, when my younger daughter went off to college a few years later, I really questioned my purpose. So I got a fish (I couldn’t have a dog at the time). That fish smiled at me and flapped its fins each day when I came home from work (actually, it was probably the food I placed at the top of its bowl), but it gave me something to care for and appeared to care for me. Empty Nest Syndrome is not a clinical condition but the experience is often described as feelings of grief, loneliness, and even despair parents feel when their children move out of the family home. And it’s rarely openly discussed! Click the link to check out my latest blog post on the topic which includes some coping strategies, dos & don’ts, and some helpful reframes. Let’s start normalizing the big feelings that come along with this life-altering experience. - Dr. Janine Furdella https://lnkd.in/ewJYRKyZ Got a helpful tip on how to cope with an empty nest? In this video, José Ramirez, LMHC shows you how to use the DBT Skill, “Check the Facts.” You can use this skill anytime you want to figure out if your emotions fit the situation. To highlight how the skill can be applied to real life, José uses a bachelor/ette party strip bar analogy. Because let’s face it, chances are at some point, many of us in relationships will experience our partners attending a bachelor/ette party which may include going to a strip club. Our attitudes about strip clubs and bachelor/ette parties (which are influenced by culture and media) can be complicated. However, complicated emotions can quickly become unhelpful and even toxic if you’re not mindful. Remember, the average uneasy feeling you may have is understandable and not usually problematic. It’s when we act on feelings that don’t fit the facts that can negatively impact ourselves and those around us. Why can’t some men explain how they’re feeling very well? Many men have been conditioned to hide or suppress their emotions due to societal expectations. The name for this phenomenon is Male Normative Alexithymia (MNA). MNA is not normal or natural. Essentially, boys may never learn how to express certain emotions, leading to long-term difficulties in emotional awareness and expression. Society then shapes and reinforces boys into conforming to traditional masculine gender roles, which then perpetuates the emotional and interpersonal difficulties that comes with this. Do you or does a man in your life struggle to express emotions? If so, let me know in the comments below. You can also learn more about MNA here: https://lnkd.in/eGs3Di2S #Alexithymia #MaleNormativeAlexithymia #NoWords #Anxiety #Psychology

“My intrusive thoughts won today.” Ever heard or said that phrase? You may be using that phrase incorrectly. Intrusive and impulsive thoughts are terms often used interchangeably. Though they are similar, there is a difference between them. Usually, when people say that their intrusive thoughts won, they really mean their impulsive thoughts won today. Don’t know the difference? Check out this video for a helpful and entertaining explanation. How often do you hear the phrase self-care, and ask yourself, who has time for that? It may sound like another task to put on your “To Do” list and that it will take time away from other relationships and responsibilities. What if we consider it more like “balanced self-care” and recognize not only does it benefit us, but it benefits all parts of our life that we value? Don’t you think it’s time to schedule your self-care? #SelfCare #WomansHealth #MentalHealth #BalancedSelfCare #Psychology #Therapy #FortLauderdale #TherapistsofInstagram #PsychologistsofInstagram
