If you were building homes for people in the 1980s like we were, you would have learned some definite ideas about what makes a house “quality": multiple roof lines, windows everywhere, soaring ceilings, 3,500 square feet of space, much of which went unused, etc etc. These were some of the starting points, and today much of it has evolved.
