11 STEPS TO HELP STAY SANE WHEN GRIEF & TRAGEDY ARE UNAVOIDABLE  1. YOU ARE NOT CRAZY – YOUR FEELINGS ARE NORMAL Your sense of anger, despair and losing your mind – are normal responses when something unjust or violent has occurred. Realize that you are not whining nor bothersome nor inappropriate – no matter how long it takes to heal. You are where you need to be.  2. SAY NO TO GUILT Survivors often wonder: “why not me instead?” or “what could I have done?” Push these unproductive and punishing thoughts away. Other’s evil actions are not your responsibility. Forgive yourself for any failures you may attribute to yourself regarding the tragedy.  3. CREATE A SACRED SHRINE/OFFERING TO LOVED ONE To honor the hurt, lost or missing loved one, create a “shrine” with pictures, items reminding you of them and light candles or incense to connect to their spirit. Ask for their guidance to help you to cope. Keep their spirit alive in you.  4. MOVE YOUR BODY Walk, hike, garden, sweep, yoga or swim. Do something to connect with your body wisdom. Focus on body sensations to replace thoughts. # #newmexico #yoga
