The latest Clairfield UK Food & Beverage sector snapshot shows that H1 2023 saw 65 transactions completed involving UK targets, a 14% reduction on H2 2022 deal volumes. This reflects a degree of caution amongst investor due to on-going cost pressures in the sector and reduced consumer spend. We expect deal volumes to increase over the next 6 months driven by stabilising interest rates and falling inflation with market consolidation a key driver for both domestic and overseas acquirors. The Irish State’s surveillance crusade… The Irish department of Justice are on a crusade to introduce all sorts of surveillance tools. These recent concerns surrounding the use of personal data by businesses underscore a pressing need for legislative action within the European Union, as the Irish won’t. The practice where prices are set based on an individual's income, search, and purchasing history, and even data from health tracker apps, reveals a disturbing trend towards a surveillance society. It raises ethical questions but not a peep from the State. The potential for misuse by a State, with a bad record on this score, and bad actors cannot be overstated. In a world where personal information can be leveraged to manipulate not just pricing but also influence behavior and decision-making, the risk posed by the unchecked use of such technologies is alarming. But not a lot of noise. The lack of straightforward rules to regulate personalised and dynamic pricing, coupled with a hesitant approach to curbing the powers of Big Tech, leaves a gaping vulnerability that is being exploited by private companies. The state wants in on the game. It is imperative, therefore, that the EU takes decisive steps to legislate against such rapacious practices. Tell the MEP candidates.

July 7th Deadline to Comment on TTB Regulations If you are a craft producer you should take this once in a lifetime opportunity to comment directly for items that will impact your business directly - it is time for a change. TTB is currently taking comments from the industry under rulemaking docket TTB-2022-0011 https://lnkd.in/g8Gt9fMe In 2021 to promote competition in the American economy, President Biden issued an executive order directing the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) to review its trade practice regulations that may “unnecessarily inhibit competition” and consider “reducing any barriers that impede market access for smaller and independent brewers, winemakers, and distilleries.” Last year, the U.S. Treasury Department issued a report titled “Competition in the Market Place for Beer, Wine, and Spirits,” which analyzes how complex regulations may inhibit small businesses from growing and prevent market access to new entrants. If you know a craft producer of Spirits, Wine, Beer, Mead, Cider or any other consumer alcohol product, please share this with them. Vinoshipper and the Craft Wine Association will be submitting comments from what we see and experience impacting our 3,000 plus clients, but individual producers should be commenting directly as well. We see and hear so many stories of small businesses not being able to get distribution due to the stranglehold the shrinking Wholesale segment has, even where the producers are two small or do not want distributors involved they are provided no choices. Wholesalers are currently telling large producers that they are going to carry less SKU's and small inventories of those SKU's. So let the market flourish, and allow the small producers compete nationally. The consumer should get involved as well to express their concerns over limited access to the brands they want. #business #change #opportunity #tax #economy #innovation #winebusiness #wineindustry #winelovers #dtc Craft Wine AssociationAmerican Distilling InstituteAmerican Craft Spirits Association (ACSA)Distilled Spirits Council of the United StatesAmerican Cider Association
