Too much exchange of information is creating an imbalance and FOMO(fear of missing out) in this generation. LinkedIn boasts about a perfect professional life while Instagram portrays a dreamy picture of personal and social life. A lot of people are silently scrolling on these apps and getting affected; when they can't handle it anymore, they either deactivate their user Id or delete the application in search of peace. Again the FOMO hits back and they start suffering in silence, thinking how their life is not perfect and what must they do to achieve that 'perfection'. Then begins an imaginary pursuit towards that seemingly perfect world... But let me tell you something- A perfect human does not exist; A perfect life does not exist; Everybody's life cannot be the same; Everyone has got their own struggle, their happy and sad times. There is no comparison, no competition- only your own specific timezone. So, don't just live a little- LIVE A LOT! Watch people,observe, and learn from them. Don't just copy anyone, don't aspire to be someone you are not. Leaving an impression and being impressionable are quite distinct. Remember your struggle. Remember the reasons that brought you where you are. What may seem very attractive on the first sight might not be the complete picture, you don't WANT to be that; albeit, you can learn from what you like and take inspiration. Create yourself, create your own style, create your own story.

I feel that law interns are not just students but also young lawyers the day they decide to pursue law. I remember in my initial law school days, before the end of every semester, I would find myself sitting with the seniors near hostel canteen talking about law internships that would "add value to the CV". The said value addition internships look quite grand at face/brand value but often lack in the actual value. I'd rather have had a day of Netflix(fMovies in college days) in my hostel room than spending it in an office getting bored, waiting for lunch time and/or 6pm(provided I had stayed that long). Understand, an internship certificate will mean zilch if you don't even remember anything about the internship but only good times at the nearest hangout market(Yes, CP). While I was thinking about it a week ago, I came up with a program to train eager and inquisitive law students in diverse areas of law. The internship program will be intensive and you might be asked to study and work on weekends. One perk at face value is that you get to do it at the comfort of your couch or beanbag. Never forget or disrespect the seniors, teachers and mentors who guided you when all you had was a "thought". In litigation, the moral code dictates that the senior under whom you train shall be respected in eternity. Work and money come and go but you should always remember what made you, YOU. This is our culture and we have to preserve it (more on this some other day).

Lawyer outside Courtroom. It is 5:05am and I am en route Himachal Pradesh in a private VOLVO bus carrying with me an RTPCR -ve report along with an e-pass issued by the Himachal Government. At 2:30am, the bus was stopped at Baddi Check Post for the mandatory e-pass checking. Of the 11 people traveling from Delhi to Kullu, three had some issues with their pass and they were asked to go back. Of the three people, two were foreign nationals(a middle-aged couple from Russia) and one was a student(S) traveling for education purposes. All e-pass holders were sent back inside the bus while the remaining three negotiated and pleaded for almost half an hour with the cops. I got down to check what was taking so long and enquired from the incharge who told me that the couple is(allegedly) carrying a fake epass. I offered to help the couple and verified the epass with their passports and it matched; however it had expired. And as per the SOP issued by HP Govt., having epass is mandatory before entering into HP. So the checkpost won't allow entry- the bus can't go ahead with the couple in it- couple won't exit the bus because well, foreign country, paid the fare, and its midnight!? Sexual Harrassment in Law Chambers Yesterday I got a call from my female colleague at bar (Ms. T) who is currently working under a senior criminal defence lawyer. In the middle of our discussion on e-fillings and virtual court hearings, she shared an incident with me which was causing her a lot of mental trauma. Ms T got a criminal matter from a relative and she discussed with her senior and asked him if he would take the matter. First, the senior quoted an exorbitant fee on which Ms T said it wasn't affordable. Then the senior asked her to pay the rest amount from her pocket and the relative can pay her back later. Ms T said that since the senior didn't even pay two months' salary in lockdown, she does not have money. The senior walked close to her, put his hand on her thigh and said with a smirk, "You've got other things besides money." She was shocked and taken aback. However, she politely told him that she respects him like a senior and would like to learn from his practice but didn't say/do anything else reason being lay-offs during pandemic. And for job security, she is ready to compromise. Litigation is a noble profession and this is not acceptable. Please refrain from acts like these. Word travels fast. Advising Right. A few months ago, my client came across an advertisement of a product which claimed to sterilize PPE kits and food items from Covid-19 through UV-C Radiations. Being an intrigued person, he went to check the certification behind such tall assurances and saw that there was one certificate from an institution which was not even a certifying authority. On receipt of legal notice sent by me, the said institution issues a public clarification that the certificate was issued in confidence to the company and was not to be used as a certification or endorsement. Also that the institution "does not take any responsibility of the performance of the product." He asked me to file a PIL right away but I advised him to have patience and take the right course through government authorities first, i.e., through RTIs, official emails and letters etc. A few weeks later, the govt. lab also issues a public notice that it "does not take any responsibility of the performance of the product". After looking at all the facts, after due diligence and exhaustion of all options, I filed a PIL before the Delhi HC and got a favorable order. Read more at: https://lnkd.in/deBG8UA
