Someone else gave me this advise many years ago, best advise in my professional career. The relationships over the years are more valuable than any material thing. I've met a lot of really great people, I call friends and some I consider to be like family.

Honesty is not just a virtue; it's a strategic choice for long-term success. There's a saying that goes, "A lie may take care of the present, but it has no future." This rings especially true in job seeking. Lying about your experience or skills might offer a temporary advantage, but the truth has a way of surfacing. Lies bring short-term gains, but long-term losses. Dishonesty might get you through the door, but it sets you up for future challenges when expectations don't align with reality. Lies damage your professional reputation. Once uncovered, a lie can tarnish your reputation far more than admitting a lack of experience ever would. Even “little white lies” are still lies. Adjusting a title, manipulating the dates of employment, or aggrandizing the people you worked with is deceitful. Period. Trust is a cornerstone of professional relationships, especially in the beginning. Once broken, it's challenging to rebuild. As you step into the job market, remember that your honesty and integrity are your strongest asset.
