FAQ

What should I wear?

First and foremost - be YOU and wear something that makes you feel good! Comfort is key - if you feel comfortable you will look more relaxed in your photos.

If I can offer some gentle guidance:

  • Keep clothing simple and coordinated

  • Light/neutral solid colours come up beautifully in photos, the best colours are pastels (pale yellow, pale blue etc) and neutrals (creams, whites, light browns).

  • A pattern can be fun too (no checks please!) but they tend to clash if more than one person is wearing one.  An idea might be that you could choose the pattern outfit first and then coordinate the colours of the other family members clothing around that outfit.

  • Shoes – barefoot is always best or some neutral coloured shoes

Clothing to avoid if possible:

  • Dark colours as they tend to blend into one another

  • Shirts with big logo’s, characters or checker patterns

  • Bright colours – Bright clothing attracts attention away from the face and may be a distraction in a portrait.  Avoid pink tones.

  • Avoid hats as they cause shading on the face

  • Avoid sunglasses as they create a reflection

A good tip is to lay out all the clothing on a bed and look at the collection – if your eye goes to a particular item, then you can guarantee the same will happen in photograph so this may need changing.

Here are a few examples from some of my past photo sessions:

Do I get to choose my photos from the online gallery?

Yes –you will be able to choose your favorite photos from your gallery. Your profile will already be ‘credited’ with the number of photos you have prepaid for you to download them. If you would like to purchase additional photos (prints or digital) you are able to do so by adding them to the gallery shopping cart.

What if my toddler wont cooperate for the photos?

Try not to stress –I have two little ones of my own, I completely understand! Often my photo shoots are right before dinner so a good idea can be to bring along snacks that aren’t too messy (sultana, muesli bar etc) that can tide them over. Another idea might be to bring along a favorite toy or prop to incorporate in the photoshoot. Mostly I find if the parents play around, joke, tickle, have fun with the toddlers then they not only result in natural happy photos but everyone enjoys the experience a lot more.

Inclement weather on the day of my shoot?

Finally - a chance to use the word “inclement” ;) I will be tracking the weather in the lead-up to your shoot and will be in touch if the weather is looking dicey.  Overcast skies can look amazing in photos so we would still go ahead, however, if it’s raining we will cancel and reschedule at a time that is convenient to you

What if I/my family is sick on the day of my shoot?

No problem, just let me know as soon as you can and we can reschedule (no extra charge and no loss of deposit). I have a young family myself so I completely understand.

What time will the shoot happen and how long will it take?

The best time is around sunset, the light is just so soft and gorgeous at this time.  The early morning light is also lovely so this would work too.  Sessions go from 30 min to 2 hours, depending on the family photography package you book and how many people are attending the photography session.

Will you ask us to pose for photos?

My photos are documentary in style – a ‘day in the life” is what I’m trying to capture.  I can assist you with some guidance to create portraits with a natural feel, but really the most special photos are the ones that occur when you are playing with your children and connecting with them.  These are the photos that have genuine smiles, the laughing eyes – the intimate, honest moments are the ones that I chase.

How long before I see the photos?

The complete session will be sent to you online within 14 days (19 on the busiest times of the year.  After your photo-shoot, it takes some time for me to complete professional editing of the images. I will send you a link to view and download from your own gallery via an online platform.
