District Rolfing Structural Integration

Feel better in your body! Rolfing Structural Integration, Neural and Visceral Approaches, Traditional Thai Bodywork, and Movement Therapy in NW Washington DC

Feeling stuck?  Like you're too young to feel so old?

District Rolfing focuses on getting you moving better and feeling better again.  It's much more than massage.  Whether you want to improve posture, balance or mobility; move the bar for sports and yoga performance, enhance your self-expression, or relieve discomfort or pain, District Rolfing can help.

The key is therapy that doesn't just massage your muscles, but engages your body's innate intelligence and directs it to help itself.  A variety of techniques and approaches are integrated into the Rolfing framework to provide a truly individualized session.  I use pressure combined with your movement to help your body reset itself, with no pain or discomfort. Best of all, results are often lasting.    It's like learning to ride a bike - once you get it, you never forget.

You don't need to know exactly what you need - just contact me and I'll send you the link to book a session and come in.  We'll do an assessment and start work right away.  Or, if you want to try a particular therapy I offer, you can read more about it below.  The common thread is all are whole-body therapies that work with your body to restore your natural mobility.   If you have questions and want to talk ask for a free 15 minute phone consultation, or just send them by email.

I look forward to working with you!

District Rolfing Therapies

Rolfing is an active approach which will engage you throughout the process, allowing you to achieve long-lasting physical change and often significant reduction or elimination of pain and mobility restrictions.  A Rolfing session feels something like a combination of a bodywork session, a private yoga class, and physical therapy.  Although the work is quite deep, we adjust the pressure to suit your needs and preferences - for sensitive recipients it is possible to work deeply using quite light pressure.

Neural and visceral manipulation are more specific approaches which free fixations in nerves and organs in the body's core.  This can have surprisingly effective results throughout the body: for example, shoulder pain that has been resistant to all other approaches can sometimes be resolved quickly by loosening restrictions around the liver.   Working lightly and more closely focused on the body's rhythms actually allows us to work more deeply, as the body can relax and engage with the work rather than tensing and allowing only work on the muscular shell.  This work is helpful for a wide range of conditions, including whiplash; shoulder, knee, and hip pain; and continued discomfort after injury, surgery, or childbirth.

Traditional Thai Bodywork is a whole-body approach.  You will wear light loose clothing during the session.  Doing the work on the floor enables more movement of the body and application of more pressure.  It is a calming and balancing approach, many people love how it feels and also get substantial relief from tension and increased mobility.  Specialized approaches such as tok sen (vibration), jap sen (work on nerves), use of herbal compresses, and scraping are incorporated as needed.

Egoscue Movement Therapy is a powerful method which empowers you to help yourself through a set of daily movements developed individually to address your areas of tension and fit into your schedule.  These movements mobilize your body, help you coordinate muscular movement, and build your body's awareness of itself (proprioception).  Egoscue is perfect for those who travel frequently and need to be able to help themselves, as well as those who feel they need a massage every few weeks.
