Benefits of Dental Crowns at our Mill Creek Office

Dental crowns are needed when a tooth-colored filling is so big that the tooth is no longer sufficient to support it. Many people call them “caps” because they fit over your entire tooth like a cap to strengthen and protect it. While there are many reasons patients may need a dental crown, the most common are:

  • Cracked teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Brown stains
  • Misaligned teeth

In addition to traditional lab-fabricated crowns, we are proud to be one of just a few dentists in the Mill Creek, WA area offering patients the convenience of single-visit CEREC crowns, onlays, and inlays. CEREC, or Chairside Economical Reconstruction of Esthetic Ceramics, let us complete the entire process of creating a finished dental crown while you wait here in our comfortable office!

What Exactly Is a Same-Day CEREC Restoration?

By using digital imaging, computer-generated designs, and in-office fabrication—your dentist at Mill Creek Dental Health Care can make your dental restoration while you wait. Traditionally, dental restorations can take weeks to months to fabricate. With CEREC technology, we can immediately improve your smile and restore its function. The benefits to CEREC same-day restorations include:

  • Patients don’t have to wait several weeks for the dental lab to finish their dental crown—it is done in-office while you wait
  • No use for temporary restorations while the patient waits for their permanent restoration to be manufactured
  • Your Mill Creek dentist will be in charge of your complete care, from start to finish to follow-up dental checks to ensure your restoration does not need adjustments
  • Digital impressions are cleaner and more efficient than traditional goopy impressions
  • Patients can save time by condensing multiple trips to just one dental office visit
  • With proper care and maintenance, CEREC restorations can last for many years

If you’ve chipped, cracked, or are missing a tooth—we can address your smile flaws immediately. You won’t have to wait any longer than necessary to fix your smile and improve your dental health.

The CEREC Dental Crown ProcessPatient smiling with dental crowns in mill creek WA

The process for placing a CEREC crown starts with the preparation of your tooth. Next, using CAD/CAM technology, our Mill Creek Dental Health Care dentists take comfortable digital impressions of the damaged tooth, which we use to create a virtual model of your new crown. The information we gather is shared with a milling machine here in our office, where we create your CEREC crown from a custom-shaded block of porcelain.

Since the process is entirely computer-aided, the traditional process of using dental “goo” to make impressions of your mouth is not necessary. Instead, a 3-D scan of your mouth creates a more accurate picture of your tooth, which we use to manufacture a dental crown or bridge that with perfect specifications. An in-office milling machine uses the digital images to create the dental crown or bridge; your dentist will ensure that the fit is accurate and comfortable.

The size, shape, and shade of your dental crown can be fashioned to blend in with your smile and existing teeth. Your dentist can shade your dental restoration to look completely natural. The entire process takes about 90 minutes, and while you wait, we invite you to sit back and relax with a comfy pillow and blanket and your favorite music. Once we complete your new dental crown, we will check it carefully for proper fit and comfort and then cement it in place.

Dental Bridges Complete Your Smile

Tooth loss happens, and when it does, one time-tested solution we offer is a dental bridge. A dental bridge is designed to fill the space left by a missing tooth. A typical dental bridge consists of two dental crowns with an artificial tooth suspended between them. Once we finish fabricating the unit, we attach the dental crowns to adjacent teeth for support.

We offer both lab-fabricated and CEREC dental bridges, and the preparation for placing a bridge is similar to that used for dental crowns. But while we can complete much of the process here at our office, the final fabrication of the dental bridge will be done at a dental lab. Since we provide the specifications, however, the dental bridge usually takes only a week or less to prepare.

Missing a tooth can change and alter your appearance, but it also affects your diet and health in ways you may not have considered. Without being able to chew and digest healthy food properly, your nutrition can suffer. Additionally, when a missing tooth leaves a space in your mouth, neighboring teeth start to shift towards the gap over time; this changes the structure of your entire smile.

Even if a missing tooth is not visible when you smile, it is still crucial to have it restored as soon as possible to avoid teeth shifting. Please call our dental staff at Mill Creek Dental Health Care immediately if you are interested in tooth replacement options.
