As we move towards a greener future, the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) has become increasingly popular. However, one of the challenges of owning an EV is ensuring that it is fully charged when needed. Luckily, the federal government has introduced a tax credit for electric vehicle chargers, which could make the process of owning and charging an EV easier and more affordable.

Things To Consider For Your EV Charging Station

OE Solar is here to help you will all your EV needs.

If you intend to park your EV while it’s charging, you will want the charging station to be no more than 12 to 15 feet from the connection port on your car, but this can vary depending on the make/model of your electric vehicle.

You will also want to consider what EV charger level will fit your charging speed needs. For best results, we recommend a Level 2 EV charger.

Level 1 & Level 2 EV chargers

There are different EV chargers levels, offering varying amounts of electricity, depending on your needs and current electrical panel system

Level 1 EV chargers

Level 1 chargers use 120-volt power and provide 2-5 miles of range per hour, making them suitable for short commutes or overnight charging

Level 2 EV Chargers

Level 2 chargers use 240-volt power and provide 6.2-7.6 kW to the vehicle, making them faster and better for larger batteries or frequent charging needs. Level 2 chargers can recharge an EV in a couple of hours, while Level 1 chargers take all day (and night)

Electrical Service Panel Upgrade

If you need a service panel upgrade, for your new home EV charger, there is a 30% tax credit with a $600 max

As a part of any OE Service, OE will assess your current panel, offer an estimate of Service panel upgrades, along with financing and additional options.

In many cases, we can offer custom solar carport.

Electric Vehicle Installation Incentives

  • As we move towards a greener future, the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) has become increasingly popular. However, one of the challenges of owning an EV is ensuring that it is fully charged when needed. Luckily, the federal government has introduced a tax credit for electric vehicle chargers, which could make the process of owning and charging an EV easier and more affordable.

  • The federal tax credit for electric vehicle chargers was initially established in 2015 as part of the Energy Policy Act. This tax credit allows individuals and businesses to claim up to 30% of the cost of purchasing and installing an EV charger, up to a maximum credit of $1,000 for residential installations and $30,000 for commercial installations.

  • To claim the federal tax credit for electric vehicle chargers, you must first purchase and install a qualifying EV charger. The charger must meet certain requirements, including being able to charge an EV with a battery capacity of at least 4 kilowatt-hours and being installed at a location that is used for charging an EV. You must also file IRS Form 8911 with your tax return to claim the credit.

  • It's worth noting that the federal tax credit for electric vehicle chargers is separate from the tax credit for purchasing an EV. If you purchase an EV, you may also be eligible for a tax credit of up to $7,500. If you're considering purchasing an EV or already own one, the federal tax credit for electric vehicle chargers is a great way to save money on charging equipment. Not only will this make charging your EV more affordable, but it can also help promote the adoption of electric vehicles and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.                                                                                                                                                     *OE Solar is not a tax professional, will not give tax advice, and cannot guarantee any of the incentives that are highlighted on our site.
