Peter’s bike Repair

Looking for a reliable, experienced bicycle mechanic?

I’ve been fixing bicycles for over thirty years, operating my independent solo business Peter’s Bike Repair in Somerville, Massachusetts since 2009 and working as a professional mechanic in local bike shops. Road and mountain bikes are my specialty: all makes and models from the 1950s through the latest present-day technology. I’m also an avid four-season mountain biker—if I’m not wrenching on bikes in my workshop, you can find me out the trails.

services and Pricing

Whether you need a seasonal tune-up, fresh parts, wheel truing, or a complete rehab of your trusted old friend or recent craigslist find, I can help.

Like all vehicles, bicycles require attention and maintenance from time to time. Tune-ups are a great option, allowing for a thorough safety inspection, adjustment of all critical components, and peace of mind for the rider. I offer various levels of tune based on use, age, and overall condition. These prices are a general guide, as I like to give estimates in person. Any parts are additional, or you may provide your own. I provide a wide range of repair services, including wheel truing, in addition to the tune-ups listed below.

$45

Basic Tune

Perfect for a bike that sees limited use in fair weather and won't need parts replaced. Adjust brakes for even pull. Shifters for perfect indexing. Check and adjust headset, bottom bracket, and wheel hubs for smooth movement. True wheels and balance spoke tension. Light frame cleaning.

$65

Advanced Tune

Good for commuter bike used daily in all weather conditions and may need basic parts like tires, cables, or brake pads. Same as Basic Tune with more intense frame and wheel cleaning. Parts additional or provide your own.

$90

Drivetrain Tune

For when the chain and cassette need replacing or those parts have gotten quite dirty. Same as Advanced Tune but with removal of chain, cassette, and cranks to degrease. Parts additional or provide your own.

$200+

The Overhaul

Get a higher mileage or older bike to feel like new again. Similar to the Drivetrain Tune. Strip the frame of all components and clean. De-grease and re-grease all bearings. Clean, polish, and wax frame. Replace all cables and housing. Parts additional or provide your own.
