About The Artwork

"In creating this portrait of the artist Marcel Broodthaers, I drew conceptual inspiration from a frame of his 1969 film 'La Pluie (Projet pour un texte)'. Formally, my work has been influenced by the proto-Cubist and Cubo-Futurist movements that predated Suprematism, particularly the works of Kasimir Malevich. During this era, Malevich often portrayed human figures in an abstract, simplified style, breaking down forms into basic geometries. I am keen for audiences to understand the evolving narrative of artists who have founded their own museums. This movement was initiated by Marcel Duchamp with 'Boîte-en-valise', then followed by Robert Filliou's 'Galerie Légitime', and Marcel Broodthaers' 'Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles'. I've continued this tradition with my own endeavor, the Davis Museum Barcelona, which is accessible at davismuseum.com. My choice of oil on canvas stems from a deep appreciation for this medium's versatility and its rich history as a vessel for images and ideas."
