A magnitude 2.8 earthquake Thursday evening was felt throughout the Metro East and the Missouri side of the St. Louis area.
The quake, just outside Germantown in Clinton County and about 35 miles east of downtown St. Louis, happened about 6:55 p.m. Central time.
It was more than 14 miles below the earth's surface.
The United States Geological Survey's Community Intensity Map shows residents reported feeling the quake as far west as St. Charles County, more than 60 miles from the quake's epicenter.
Most respondents reported weak to light shaking.

The St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency reported receiving numerous questions about the quake.
A 2.5 quake is equivalent to a moderate bolt of lightning, according to the USGS.
Earlier this month, there was a 2.5 magnitude quake near Pinckneyville, Illinois, which is about 30 miles south of Thursday's temblor.
Thursday's quake is not all that rare: There have been eight quakes of 2.5 or stronger in the metro St. Louis area and surrounding counties in the past 10 years.
