Description

Included in this packet are ten bookmark-style Quick Check cards for practicing the skill of stating antonyms.

Each Quick Check card includes twenty “What is the opposite of….” requests.

A total of 100 antonym pairs are addressed (200 total items).

The opposites are in two sets, Set 1 includes lists 1 – 5; Set 2 includes lists 6 – 10. The words on lists 1 – 5 are the opposites of, and coordinate exactly with, the words on lists 6 – 10. This allows use of each list as a teaching tool or as an answer key or self-checking tool.

The Quick Check cards include boxes for placing a check or X for each response. Each card was designed for use with individuals or with groups of up to three students. The cards provide a quick, easy method of providing therapeutic intervention or for obtaining baseline or ongoing assessment results.

The response charting boxes included on each card make data collection/charting of responses convenient and easy. Score results on the card and record on your formal data collection log.

The Quick Check cards can be used in the following ways:

Idea #1: Give each student in the group a different Quick Check card from Set 1 lists 1- 5 or Set 2 lists 6 – 10 and have them state the antonyms for their individual cards. Score with a check or X on each student’s card as he/she provides responses.

Idea #2: Use only one card for a group and have the students take turns providing an antonym. Score individual students in different columns on the Quick Check card.

Idea #3: For students that can read independently, have them do a self-check activity. Give each student a pair of coordinating opposites lists, i.e., list 1 and list 6, then have them use list 1 to state opposites and list 6 to check to see if the answer was correct.
