Serviced apartments to bring life to Edinburgh's Broughton Market

A former office building iat 1 Broughton Market, Edinburgh, is to be repurposed as serviced apartments for short-term let under plans filed by 3DReid Architects on behalf of Northumberland Street Properties.

Building on the industrial character of the structure new additions will introduce a feature gable staircase to provide access to seven apartments, including penthouse accommodation in a dormer roof.

Marketed as an alternative to hotel accommodation the applicant stresses that the risk of late-night disturbances can be minimised by vetting guests and employing noise monitors and over-occupancy controls.

Chris Dobson, director at 3DReid said: “Whilst situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town, the Broughton Market area continues to hold onto its distinct charm and identity, long established before its amalgamation within a Georgian urban block. It’s been a real pleasure to be afforded the opportunity to consider a contemporary intervention to this location, one which seeks to draw upon its rich industrial heritage and idiosyncrasies, whilst further diversifying the use and animation of the area’.

The project team includes Will Rudd Davidson and Harley Haddow.

Do you have a reference available for this? We haven't found it on the Council's Planning Portal.
