麺場 ハマトラ 日吉店

Hamatora is a ramen shop that has a few stores in the Yokohama area. This one in Hiyoshi serves black noodles that uses bamboo charcoal powder that may look a bit strange at first but one taste, and you'll be hooked. They say the bamboo charcoal absorbs the cholesterol in your body, which I can't verify, but I can say this is one of the tastiest ramen noodle shops in the area, and is in my top 3 all time favorite spots.

Great noodles for a reasonable/"normal" price. I'd say its like eating a burger at Shake Shack for Burger King prices.

Menu/selection: (5/5)
Not a large menu but offers about 6-8 versions of their noodles. Don't recall seeing the usual ramen side dish of gyoza being offered either.

Top quality ingredients, taste and presentation make for a great meal.

Service/staff: (5/5)
Friendly quick staff seem to serve up your order within a couple minutes.

Ambiance: (5/5)
This place reminds me of some grungy garage with steel and wood decor. Hip hop and clubby music at somewhat loud volumes might not be for everyone, but seems to add to the fun vibe of this place.


Final thoughts
Hiyoshi has no shortage of ramen restaurants especially right by the station, but if you take an extra minute or two of a walk away from the station, you can reward yourself with what may be one of the best ramen in the area.
