Updating my review to 4 stars for a couple reasons.
1) Art Nail really likes to move appointments around at the last minute, which would be fine if *they* didn't charge for cancellations/reschedules within 24 hours.
2) If you don't tip your tech, or forget to tip, or your Venmo breaks, they will chase you for a tip. Maybe I am old-fashioned, but to me, the tip is between the actual person doing the service and the actual person receiving the service - it's none of the salon's actual business and a customer should not have to explain their tip. Added to their recommendation of a 25% + tip, this just makes me think maybe Art Nail should pay their techs more.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 29, 2023Previous reviewSorrrryyy, epic review ahead. Nail stuff is tricky and details matter!
I truly love me some Art Nail. Found this spot when I was looking for Apres-X gel extensions (these are faster and easier than build-on gel extensions). So here's the rundown:
1) Japanese gel specialty: so, a focus on nail art BUT you can also just get a plain (tier 1) solid color gel manicure here. (NO pedicures. Hands only.)
2) It is NOT that expensive: around $100-110 before tip for solid one-color mani, depending on your tech. Yes, this is a lot for a manicure, but not for Japanese gel, which will last you 3-4 weeks depending on how fast your nails grow out. I am waaaay happier paying even $100 every 2-3 weeks and never seeing a chip or a break than paying $40 every week and getting chips on day two. Major nail art, though, will cost you - and it should, because this is HARD HARD intensive work!
3) I had a nail split (from bad regular gel removal elsewhere) that was unfixable for YEARS and since I have been at Art Nail, this split has grown out and is GONE. They actually really care about nail health here.
4) If you DO want nail art, like crazy Tok-n-Gram winning creative nails, these guys are AMAZING. Just make sure you book in enough time as this ish is labor-intensive - and show them the inspo on what you want.
5) I've seen probably 8 different people here, because the online booking service makes it so hard to choose both tech and schedule, so I go by schedule, because mine is nucking futs. ALL of them have been great. Shout-outs to Shani, Jeidy, Quinland, Asia, Taneia, Siena, and Damisa and I am sure I missed someone!
6) Everything is done by text and they are really nice about moving stuff around/trying to get you in.
7) You knew there had to be some downsides and for me there are two.
The place is very basic and simple, which is fine, but it's not particularly comfortable (I don't know that I could survive several hours of nail art in those plastic chairs) and there is NO place to wait if your tech runs late. Also, they have signs everywhere recommending tips as follows: 18% "thank you" 20% "I love them" 25% "Spectacular" 30% "I love you". Now THIS is straight up obnoxious. Pushing a 25-30% tip for a great job? How about paying your artists more and upping the base price? This isn't enough in my view to knock off a star, but it's annoying.
Net net, if you don't mind the price tag and you don't need squishy chairs, refreshments, someone burning palo santo and anointing you with lavender, this is the place to come for Japanese gel work. - Maeve M.Jamaica Plain, Boston, MA099Feb 24, 2024Updated review
Tier 1 single color with extensions no nail art in red Service requested, quality, vibe. Love it!!!!!!!!
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 25, 2024Previous reviewWorth every dollar. Best service I've gotten in nyc or Boston. They last just over 3 weeks in my experience and honestly still look decent when it's time to refresh. Jeidy is my fav but in a pinch all of them are fantastic and I'm never disappointed with the quality
Nov 27, 2023Previous reviewJeidy was great! Came in to treat myself on my birthday and had design ideas on Pinterest! The appointment was about an hour for gel with extensions and design on 6 nails. The quality of the manicure is pristine and from other reviews I expect it to last a few weeks. I was able to pay for everything on Venmo which is super great.

This is by far my favorite place to do Japanese gel art, and I can't recommend it more highly. Everything is super-clean and efficient, and everybody there is friendly, from the nail artists themselves to the people who help book your appointments and arrange payment. They are also super cool and understanding if you run slightly late or need to change things around because of unexpected life things, though you probably don't want to pull this on your first visit. (Given how long nail art takes to do, your flaking or delay can actually cause a huge bottleneck for the day, so when I say "slightly late," I really just mean SLIGHTLY, lol!)
I normally see Celia, and we normally talk about horror movies; the time blows by! She is an ace with airbrush and also applying topcoat in a way that won't peel.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jennifer R.Los Angeles, CA71615Feb 4, 2023
I found them based on apres extension reviews for my vacation almost 2 years ago. Ive seen 6 different techs since. So, I believe everyone is very talented at this salon. But! If you're a single color girl, like myself, the true queen is Yessi. Her attention to detail is crème de la crème. I see her every 4 weeks and never have lifting with daily cuticle oil use. I can also recommend Celia, Michelle, and Nik for tier 4 artwork. Worth the money, honey.

I couldn't make an appointment to my usual nail spot but opted to try somewhere new for a change to get hard gel removal and nail art. If you want nail art, specialized hard gel, extensions, etc. this is that type of nail salon. They charge an arm and a leg for just tier 1 nail art, which is less complex, time consuming designs. They price accordingly for each tier and any additional services, I think tier 3 or 4 being the highest. I asked for tier 1 art and it cost over $200 after tip.
My first experience wasn't bad by any means but It came with some issues. My appointment was already an hour behind schedule as they asked to push it by 30 min, and when I arrived, I still had to wait another 30 min until my technician was ready. I brought some art inspo for my designs, which I thought was pretty simple. I felt the art was ultimately done okay, with the exception of some parts being a little sloppy on closer inspection. I also had some polish remnants on my skin. I asked for a rhinestone on one of my nails, which didn't feel secure on the nail at all. That ended up falling off the very next day which I was afraid would happen. Pretty disappointed when looking at the work more closely.
Overall, not completely satisfied with the first time experience, but I wouldn't shun anyone to try this salon. They do specialized nail art, but it's not cheap. I felt what I got didn't really equate to what I paid for. For tier 1, I expected a bit better, and especially for the price. Also the amount of time they were behind schedule wasn't really great.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Business owner information

Sara,
We reached out to you to try to schedule a complimentary nail fix appt, hope to see a reply so we can figure out what happened
Future clients: we are proud to fairly compensate our technicians and pay them a commission for the services they preform which creates a much happier work environment. We realize our our prices aren’t comparable to your typical corner shop which is reflected in our products and quality. We value our clients and encourage them to communicate openly with their artist if at any point the art is not turning out to their expectations - Apr 14, 2021
I like to call myself the nail whisper. I have tried several speciality nail salons in nyc. For my latest hunt, I needed the hard gel on my nails removed as I was concerned abt nail damage. After several days of looking for a location that would remove work of another stylist/location, I stumbled upon Art Nail in the wee of the night. In fact it was so late at night that I accidentally booked an appointment for the next morning. I was so worried about how I would get out of this pickle as there was a strict cancellation policy but they emailed me the next day with a resolution.
The salon consists of several different nail technicians who are all amazing in their own right. The stylist I was working with happened to be my name twin and she was knowledgeable, creative and meticulous.
The customer service is top notch. I had cancelled an appointment recently and they had reached out to me via text asking if I needed a rescheduling that they could assist with! That's freaking amazing.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information

I am obsessed with art nail. I struggle with eczema and this is the only salon that has never caused me to have a flare up. The Japanese and apres gel has done wonders for my nail health. I usually go to Yessi and I can not recommend her enough. Her care and energy is unmatched. The amount of time she puts into my cuticles and polish is truly appreciated. I love our time together because it feels like I get to spend a couple hours with a good friend. Her work is insane!

I come to Art Nail to see Yessi and have been doing so for almost a full year! I only wish I had a before photo to show the sad state my nails were in prior to. I book an appointment every 4 weeks (my nails last that long and could actually be pushed longer), and the experience is always calm, gentle and worry-free. Yessi is incredibly consistent, patient with me and my indecisiveness, and truly such a pleasure to be with for the duration of my appointment. She genuinely takes pride in her work and loves what she does, always looking for ways to level up the experience she provides. Her Instagram is an impressive portfolio of her work (@hello_bondgrl), if you're not sure where to begin when looking for inspiration or seeking your new nail professional.

Yessi is by far my favorite nail artist. She is sweet and welcoming and takes great care and pride in her work. She takes such good care of my nails and executes all my ideas perfectly. I'm always confident enough to leave any art ideas up to her as well. I can tell that Yessi is always striving to learn more and be better and I'm always excited for my time with her each month.

Yessi is a true GEM I've been going to art Nail for over a year now and she's truly helped my nails grow stronger and look overall healthy and at times hand model-ish! LOL ... She is such a perfectionist in the most amazing way and such a good human being which leads me excited to get my nails done by her
