Love this place, the choices in Greek Town have diminished in recent years, but this has been a go to choice for a long time. The saganaki is an outstanding appetizer, i recommend it, one dish is good enough for 3 people. It's flamed at your table, and is a great way to get started. I was going to have my usual Athenian Greek Chicken, it was not on the menu anymore...had chicken skewers with tzatziki....it was good...nothing special...
For dessert, we love galataboutako ...they were out! I had baklava...it was a large portion enough for two and the best I ever had....we were a party of six...cost was 125 per couple...pricey, but what isn't anymore?Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 14, 2024
Came here for a good friends birthday, and it definitely enticed me to come back to Greek town! This restaurant is in such a fun area, and parking is also quite convenient for out of town guests.
Menu is vast with all of the classic Greek staples, as well as some fun specials! On this trip, we stuck to the classics and they were great!
The lamb for the gyro plate was amazing, and a large portion. I enjoyed having leftovers, but the pita was the only part that didn't have a proportional serving left.
My boyfriend also enjoyed his leg of lamb! It was very tender, and the sauce was cinnamon-esque and very warming!
Prices are a little high for a standard dinner, but I think if you value the leftovers, as well, it's worth it!!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 15, 2023
This is a lovely restaurant that I can not recommend enough. It's been a staple of Greektown for as long as I can remember and I've been coming here since I was just a kid.
The food is fantastic. The portions are huge! Every bite of every dish was flavorful and filling.
The staff here are always excellent. They're knowledgeable of the menu, quick, and I'm always impressed by their ability to remember orders without writing them down.
My favorite thing about Athena is their giant greenhouse-like dining area. It the summer, it's open air and in the winter it's covered and heated. I love being able to see what's going on outside and be in the natural light even when it's so cold outside.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 1, 2024
Happy Easter! For the last 3 years we've done brunch at Athena for Easter. Unfortunately, the quality progressively declines. I asked for pork skewers and I'm pretty sure what came out instead was the chicken and pork souvlaki with an awkward pool of olive oil. Maybe I should've said something and that's on me, but it took a while for the entrees to come out and I was hungry. The chicken was dry and in terms of service, we felt a little forgotten about, but Easter brunch is a busy time.

Lovely dining room, converts to open air space in warm months. Wonderful food. My gyro was a little lacking in flavor but nothing a little salt couldn't fix. Many offerings of Greek wines. The star of the show here though is definitely the stunning dining room! We were here on a Wednesday night and they were busy. I highly recommend reservations.

Good Greek food, with lots of traditional options! They have saganaki (flaming cheese) and moussaka (both vegetarian and meat versions). The larger seating area is sunny and open, and designed to feel like you are outside while actually inside. Staff was nice and attentive. There is free valet parking available, making it a convenient option.

My recent brunch experience at Athena Greek Restaurant was absolutely fantastic and I couldn't wait to share my thoughts! From the moment I stepped in, the inviting atmosphere and charming decor set the perfect backdrop for a delightful meal. The warm, friendly staff made me feel right at home, and their knowledge of the menu was truly impressive. In addition to the fantastic food and service, the restaurant's decor and atmosphere transported us to the shores of Greece. The charming blue and white color palette, along with the tasteful decor, created an ambiance that made us feel like we were dining in a traditional Greek restaurant. I decided to try the PAIDAKIA (grilled lamb chops) and Greek Fries and I must say, it was a delightful culinary experience! The PAIDAKIA were cooked to perfection, tender, succulent, and bursting with flavor. Each bite was a heavenly combination of juicy meat and well-balanced seasoning that truly showcased the mastery of Greek cooking. The meat was so well-prepared that it practically melted in my mouth, leaving me craving more. Accompanying them were the Greek Fries, a true treat in themselves. These fries were a delightful twist on the classic, with a crispy exterior that gave way to a fluffy interior and topped with feta cheese . The seasoning was just right, adding a touch of Mediterranean flair that perfectly complemented the lamb chops. The harmony between the lamp and fries was evident, a harmonious pairing that satisfied both my taste buds and my desire for an authentic Greek dining experience. We can't wait to return to Athena Greek Restaurant and explore more of their menu. Highly recommended to all fellow food enthusiasts and Greek cuisine aficionados. Opa!

Nice atmosphere and interiors, overall good family dining experience. They don't have a whole lot of vegan options but the staff and folks at the kitchen understand dietary needs and will accommodate options.
I picked up food from here, they gave me some really nice bread on the side and the hummus was really fresh.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Eileen M.Montgomery, IL035Apr 13, 2024
The shrimp first coarse was delicious ! The ambiance was great . I ordered the gyros and it was a little dry. Our server was great. It was Greek Independence Day and there was a parade.

The last time I was there I was slightly disappointed in the food, but much to my surprise the Service from our waiter Sam, AND THE FOOD, were both excellent! I could not indulge the dessert, but my family thoroughly enjoyed them. This was a much better performance!
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Dec 12, 2021Previous reviewThe food was excellent! The service, well it was overall disappointingly quite average. 1) Three people, two menus and one cocktail menu. It took FIFTEEN of the 90 minutes allotted for the meal to get a third menu!!!! (YES they now put a 90 minute limit on turning their tables). 2) No bread was ever offered--no olive oil, no parmigiana, not until our entree's came and I asked. (Strike two). 3) $280.00, which included a 22% tip, for three without a bottle of vino at a rather pedestrian Greek restaurant seemed ridiculously overpriced. $31 for a beef kebob really? I will unfortunately be passing on this establishment despite the tasty food. Mediocre experience at best.
