im not from Yakima and was there for the week for work. I bought a used bike and was working on it in my hotel room with only a few tools. I walked a mile to the bearded monkey hoping to have a crank set swapped out. Hollowtech...15 min job. No, we don't have time today, come back tomorrow was the reply.
well ok, I guess I'll replace the worn brake cable housing then. He cuts the pieces to length and when I walk the mile back to my hotel room i notice he didn't bother to ream the ends that were mashed closed.
second and last time I'll go there!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Erwin M.Yakima, WA02Mar 7, 2023

Not sure where the hate for this place is coming from, but based on my experience, they get a couple big thumbs up!
As a specialty bike shop, you're definitely going to pay more than if you're picking up an old Huffy at Bed Bath and Beyond (Who I just learned actually sell those bikes now) But in the world of bikes, you absolutely get what you pay for.
Upon entering, the bikes take up about 2/3 of the store and they're literally floor to ceiling. They sell everything from high end road and mountain bikes, to balance bikes for kiddos. Trek seems to be the predominance of what they sell, with a few other options interspersed.
They have plenty of bike gear including helmets, shoes, jerseys and lots of it alludes to the bearded monkey!
The guys working here are very helpful and knowledgeable about all things bike related. Definitely worth your time to come check it out!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jon G.Anchorage, AK04Sep 15, 2022
I'm from another state. I was out riding a couple weeks ago and decided to ride some off-road trails. Had no idea of the thorny pickers around here and quickly had two flat tires. Took my bike to the Bearded Monkey. They put some new heavy duty tubes in along with a sealant that solved the immediate problem and gave an extra degree of protection for the next mishap. The guys were friendly, had me back riding in a couple hours, and didn't charge an arm and a leg.

Although slammed with new bikers due to coronavirus, the folks here were friendly and provided great service. When the mechanic Luke learned that I am doing a bike ride across the USA, he insured that my bike was ready to go in about one hour so that I could continue without delay. Thanks guys. #MontiUSARide

I went by Bearded Monkey Cycling yesterday to look at purchasing a hitch bike rack. I pulled in to the parking lot and there were a few cars I proceeded to walk towards the entrance and was rudely encountered by a employee which I found out was the actual owner. He states in a loud rude voice that you can't go in the store and you'll have to wait your turn outside the store. There were no signs in plain view notifying you of this, and the way he spoke was very unprofessional and rude!! Not the way you speak to potential customers! I've heard similar negative feedback from other people but witnessed it first hand. Better learn how to speak to people you're not the only bike shop in town...

I learned about Bearded Monkey while cycling the Yakima Crimestoppers ride. They typically help support the ride and do an excellent job.
I've bought several bikes from them and they've taken excellent care of me.
I recently damaged my rear derailer on my Roubaix. Lance ordered a new one, called me when it was in and his crew installed it promptly while I waited.
Thank You Lance!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ivan A.Wapato, WA016May 9, 2020
Rude customer service. While looking for a bike for my wife I got greeted by a person which I think it was the owner he said "you can't come in here you need to go outside!" In a rude manner. The door was wide open and there was a couple people in there already. I'm a business owners myself and I would never treat customers or potential customers that way.

Lance was friendly and very helpful while trying to buy a bike for my 63 year old dad. He provided excellent customer service and after a few modifications requested by dad, we walked out with a perfectly outfitted Trek Bontrager bike. It also came with a free tune-up within the 1st year.
Lance and the crew at Valley Cycling and Fitness have the knowledge and experience to provide every customer walking through the door, exactly what they need. I would highly recommend Valley Cycling and Fitness for anyone looking for a great selection of quality bikes for all levels of cycling.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
