We stock over 120 different RPGs including Dungeons & Dragons, GURPS, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu and Savage Worlds, as well as miniatures games such as Warhammer 40,000 and Warmachine. We also stock the areas largest selection of Magic: The Gathering packs and singles, as well as packs and singles for both Yu Gi Oh! and Pokemon. We also carry a large selection of both new and back issue comic books as well as a large selection of graphic novels and trade paperbacks. Gaming tables available daily as well. I really love this shop. It's brimming with goodies in comic and graphic novels, games, dice, model and mini paint, etc. There's a comfy seating area, there's snacks and drinks for cheap.

It has a model and mini painting room, and it's used for gaming Thursdays and Thursdays. Warhammer, etc. is there on Thursdays. Regular board gaming is there on both nights, but the bulk of the room is reserved for tabletop RPG. There's an additional gaming room in the front. The people that come there to play are are great, the shop is extremely well-run, the staff is great. They do special orders and card trading. They carry some gently used items. And there's a purchase stamp program.

Anyways, my brother used to take me, his baby sis, with him to the comic book shop every Tuesday when I was little, and read them to me, so I like checking out any shop I run into in my travels and moves to other states for a touch of home. Castle Perilous is among the most welcoming, and is among the best stocked in each category while still having a lot of variety. Smart use of the square footage. It's impressive.

      First to Review

It's funny that I'm reviewing a comic book store, but there's always a first for everything.

This place is a comic book nerd's heaven. They have so many books and cards available for sale. Also, they hold Magic tournaments on certain nights of the week so you will see people in one of their many rooms playing against each other.

They have board games, comic books, anime, cards, and props everywhere.

It's nice to know that a place like this can still survive the tough economy.

We try to find decent game stores as we travel across the U.S. Castle Perilous has a good selection of games, RPGs, and miniatures. However their prices are much higher than any store we have visited. With choices like Miniature Market, CoolStuff, and Amazon, it is surprising that they can survive keeping prices that high.

The major reason for receiving 1 Star is staff at Castle Perilous. I have visited the store 4 separate times over 3 years with the hope of finding a decent game deal. Each time staff has been aloof, non-friendly, irritated, or just plain scarce.

They do have the game you want if your willing to pay high prices and receive poor service.

While this is an established business with a diverse selection it suffers from an owner that does not behave ethically, which is fascinating because he's a professor that teaches business ethics. He will attempt to ignore release dates, restrictions, and price agreements, and will also bad mouth independent organized play structures as he views them as competition, not sales drivers. He also attempts to discourage price checking, and when I still went to this store the owner informed me that if I didn't like the prices I could get it from Amazon. Needless to say I did, for half the price.

Hands down the best game store I've ever been to. One of the worst parts about leaving Illinois was losing CastleP. But they even make it easy to order online from them and I still have a dozen comic book subscriptions with them years later. They make it worth it.

They go out of their way to get you want you want. They search high and low for the collectibles you want, and usually if they can't find it you won't either.

Comics books. Board games. Role playing games. Collectible card games. Miniatures. Paints. Organized game events. Snacks. And a huge place to play all those games. They even have a demo room to try out a number of games before you buy them. I loved taking advantage of that, and ended up purchasing some incredible games I wouldn't have encountered otherwise.

Totally worth checking out. Impossible not to find something there that'll blow your mind.

This book store is a FRONT! If you go to the door in the back alley and ask for "Nathan" after hours they will provide taxidermy services for literally ANYTHING. No questions asked. Everything is hassle free and they have a great attitude. Just bring the corpse in an unmarked bag or container and they will give you an extremely reasonable quote, no haggling, totally hassle free. I had accidentally backed over a family of raccoons several times at a shell gas station 2 weeks ago. Nathan fixed exerything perfectly and you couldnt even tell there had been trauma. Within two days i had the raccoons totally restored to their previous condition and Nathan was willing to deliver them to my ex girlfriend's bedroom for only 175$. The lowest competitor in the area was quoting over 500$!!! Best service of this kind in southern illinois, way ahead of the competition. 5 stars for nathan and all the caring staff at Castle Perilous Games and Bookstore.

A few weeks ago I went to Castle Perilous for the first time. I must say that everyone there was super nice and extremely helpful. I wouldn't say I'm much of a comic book person, although I bought a Doctor Who comic book while I was there.

I am very excited by how much Doctor Who stuff they had. I'm a utter Whovian to the core and it's nice to see there are places in Southern IL who feed this addiction.

I am also happy about their huge selection of board games.

They won me over as a customer - if you go in, they'll probably win you over too.

They also host several D&D groups and I have to say their selection of RPGs is pretty darn good. Whenever I need a sourcebook I usually go here instead of checking amazon.

      Better atmosphere.

Around since the 90s, this is what every comic and games store should be. A great selection of current and back issue comics and graphic novels, games, miniatures and more! Definitely worth a visit if you like any of the above; plus the girls bathroom has some awesome decor!
