We came to Mystic for the day and arrived at noon - as expected many places were packed but Chapter One had room.
It was a good choice.
Unique menu - the Devils on Horseback was recommended as a starter and true to the recommendation it was very good.
They were able to be flexible with the entree and did a great BLT without mayo or lettuce, and swapped out the fries for broccoli.
The omlet was a bit onion heavy, our server Mia offered to redo it, and when we decided to keep it and pick out the onions she comped it.
Highly recommend Chapter One and ask for Mia. We need more conscientious professionals like her.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mike E.West Hartford, CT753649Mar 17, 2024
PROs:
-They were open
-no wait
-comped one glass of wine that we didn't even complain about or ask to be comped bc they massacred the meal and our server knew it.
CONS:
-no wait when every restaurant in Mystic has a wait
on a Sat night.
-The server coming over after a bit of a wait and saying "Hi, are you ready to order?"
-The Food. Literally all of it. Old "Heirloom" (hardly) Tomatoes on the Caprese Salad. The Overcooked Grey Green Broccoli on with her blood-raw Filet which was anything, but medium well. The rubbery shrimp. The overly chewy YellowFin Tuna.
-Wanted to just pay and leave without saying a word. Server noticed the blood on the plate and was embarrassed. She sent the Filet back for us. Filet returned burnt and dry.
-overpriced for the lack of quality.
In the paradigm of perceived value... Chapter One fits the "High Price/Low Quality/Low Value" category to a T. We went to Arethusa a Tavolo a week later and paid double of what our Crapter One bill was.... Arethusa is High Price / High Quality / High Value and I'd go there any day of the week. Chapter One should become Chapter 7, 11, or 13.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 78133363May 17, 2023Updated review8 check-ins
Four of us went to celebrate my little sisters birthday. I'm here very often but today was epic. Michelle the waitress, has been there for so long and I love her. The best. The bar tenders Andrea and new one Haley were great.
We had wine and Sangria; wings, fries and tenders. All was great as usual. We sat at the bar the entire time. Met some new people and chatted the entire time.
Music was good as well. There is always a good time at chapter one. This was a Wednesday and it was packed!!!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 1May 21, 2019Previous reviewA few of my friends went to Chapter one Saturday. Arrived at 6:25 pm ask the hostess for a table for 7; he said to wait that he had to check his reservations although there were tons of available space. Which I understood and told him we will wait for him to check while having a drink. 15 minutes passed and I went to him again as I saw more tables being cleaned. He said he knew the tall table was reserved but had to check for others again we are waiting. By 7 pm I go find him and he says no we don't have a table. So I asked him why didn't he come to communicate this? His response was I would have come get you if he had a table. WHAT??? So I approached my friends and they were in disbelief that he made us wait for nothing. We didn't even have the nice bartender there named Jon V. Who at least makes a mice atmosphere. This place is getting worse by the minute. Some others heard what he did and complaint and someone else came to get us a table. Still service was not as good. The waitress kept forgetting us for drink refills. We ran out of eater and never got a refill. So sad that this used to be a great restaurant.

My family and I had gotten to Chapter One and before being seated by the door I asked to be sat elsewhere since I have a one year old and it was extremely cold out. The manager Julia rolled her eyes and started huffing and puffing as she walked away. When I asked why she did that, her response was that she was frustrated because the tables she had in the back were reserved so she needed to find a table for us so she "apologized" LOL! Her attitude as a General Manager is VERY SHITTY and her reason for giving us an attitude was terrible. There was no reason whatsoever as to why she needed to give us an attitude!
Aside from her, our service was great thanks to Michelle, as always. We go there very frequently and she's usually the one who serves us and is amazing every time!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 7, 2023
My husband and son and I stopped here for dinner while down visiting the Aquarium a week ago.
Miranda was our server and she could not have been sweeter and more accommodating of our intention to get our exhausted toddler fed ASAP.
We got the roasted tomato bruschetta and wings for appetizers, while our son ate his cheeseburger and French fries. The bruschetta was amazing. I am personally not a raw tomato fan but love roasted tomatoes and never get to enjoy bruschetta because of that fact, so this was a happy surprise that did not disappoint. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his wings, as well.
I opted for the tuna entree and my husband got the Cajun chicken pasta. We both loved our meals. They were massive portions, honestly. We were stuffed. The stir fry rice that came with the tuna was incredible.
Service was quick. We were in and out, which was perfect for us. Pricing was fair for the portion sizes and the quality of the food we got, so no complains there.
We would absolutely be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ken D.Mystic, CT026Feb 23, 2024
Dropped by for dinner and found the food pretty disappointing. Think of this place more as a bar with some food rather than a restaurant with a bar. The vibe is a bit weird as there are empty picture hangers on the wall because the restaurant turns into a 'club' at night, and the art/photos were getting damaged, stolen, etc., so the management has taken things off the walls (so they are bare) but have left the hangers there. Place is just odd.

We came to Mystic after our 30th Anniversary trip to Las Vegas was cancelled. Our meal from start to finish was simply fabulous. Yanitza was gracious and quite possibly the best Server/Bartender we have ever had! The oysters, the yellow fin tuna and the calamari was incredible. Your restaurant definitely helped turn a very disappointing weekend into a wonderful experience-THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
