Chick-E-Ribs

In search of a replacement for Big Kev's, that shuts down for an obnoxiously long vacation each winter, I tried this place I keep driving past but never getting a chance to stop.

First impression: the menu board is cluttered, it took me some time to figure out what the full selection of offerings were. I decided to order the pulled pork sandwich, with a side and drink, a combo listed on the menu board for $11. When I did that, the cashier stopped me and said, hey, we have a lunch special for that! So, I ask for that instead, and get the EXACT SAME THING for the EXACT SAME PRICE. Huh.

The food came really fast, and was handed to be at the counter, loose plates, no tray for carrying to the table. I nearly spilled my baked beans all over the floor trying to carry everything at once.

The food: Bleh. The pork was rather dry, and topped with a generic, supermarket-brand quality sauce. The roll was going stale, where a soft, fluffy roll to absorb the juices of the pork (had there been any) would have been preferable.

The baked beans were advertised as being with burnt ends. Well, it looked and tasted like generic canned baked beans with a few specks of pork thrown in after the fact. How can I tell? There was no smoky pork flavor in the sauce to the beans at all. It did literally taste like ShopRite canned baked beans.

An added inconvenience: as a further disservice to customers, they charge a profitable surcharge on the use of credit cards, discouraging people from making full purchases at their store. But to be fair, the quality doesn't encourage large or repeat purchases anyways.

Sadly, my search for another BBQ place continues.

Damn good barbecue.

Stopped by on a New Year's Eve, and order a half rack with smoked Mac & Cheese with their Beer Battered Onion Rings.

The question that's Leah's determines my rating: Would I come back? Absolutely.

We have had the ribs, chicken and brisket.
Never disappointed, the flavor is great, the sides are also good, homemade and delicious. The food shows how much the owners love sharing good homemade, smoked food. And price is easy on the wallet without compromising the food.

The food is good when you can actually get it. They are constantly understaffed and the service suffers because of it. On July 2nd I purchased a chicken, it was inedible because it was undercooked. I posted photo, you decide. On this trip, I placed my order, drove 20 minutes to get it, only to get there and have other people served who came in after me while I was waiting. Then I was told one of the 2 things I ordered was out. They should've said on phone, but no. As I tried to pick a cold side because my warm food was already sitting there and I didn't want it to get cold while they cooked another side to replace the one I originally ordered, some man behind counter told me chicken couldn't have been raw and then called me an asshole while I was standing right there. He refused to look at the pictures. The ambience in store is chaotic and rather hostile. But the chronic understaffing may be the reason. The man repeated how understaffed they were as he grumbled, snarled and made references about going to McDonald's under his breath. As I said, food is good when cooked properly, but the customer service is deplorable.

Stumbled onto this place visiting from Brooklyn. We never would've guessed that we'd find the best barbecue we've had in years at some strip mall in Catskills NY. The sides we ordered, which were baked beans, coleslaw and corn on the cob were delectable. And the people who work there were so kind, as well as rightfully proud of their down home cuisine!

The food was beyond amazing such great sides and everything was delicious they have lots of options and if you're up at the Catskills definitely make a stop here and enjoy some great BBQ

Had the Ribs last night and multiple sides. The Ribs are the best BBQ I've had in a long time. Fall off the bone really great! Onion Rings, home made not the frozen crap you get in most places. Delicious!!!

If you love smoked ribs and meats, this is the place for you! I had ribs today and they were amazing! The French fries are real, and amazing! Can't beat that!

For 3 years I've been trying to talk the man into stopping. Today we did - guess who's still cleaning off the ribs! My brisket was delicious and the sauce is awesome. Guess who's already planning our next stop there! Much better than another local bbq joint that everyone raves about! Can't wait to go back!
