Love going to this place when we're in town. The staff are always so friendly and the drinks are exceptional (must try the espresso martini - it's chocolatey and delicious). You step into the 20s in this speakeasy with the staff dressed to fit the era and the entire vibe to match. Cocktails are reasonable price (approx $12-$14).
To get in, you have to pick up the phone in the barber shop and use the right password. There's a clue on the wallHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kaj H.Concord, NH2731957May 20, 2023
Such a cool place!!!!
Classic prohibition speakeasy bar that has tons of charm. Def worth the visit. They have a very creative drink menu. Pricing is a little steep - but def a place ya gotta visit!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Allison F.Concord, MA018Nov 6, 2023
I'm heartbroken about what's happened to this bar. It was so exciting to have not only a short list of speakeasy-era staples, but a second rolling/evolving list of uniquely-crafted house drinks that made Chuck's truly special. The bartenders also used to have the skill to create a cocktail for you catered around your ideas or preferences on a whim - it was almost a fun game that felt authentic. The atmosphere itself used to be dark & sexy while also fun & lively at the same time. We used to dress up just to come here and soak in the impeccable vibe.
I returned recently after hearing that the menu had been changed, but I remained optimistic. After the visit, I could not have been more disappointed. The entire vibe has changed; the place felt stale, and even the lighting was totally off. There was no music. The bartenders and drinks were totally uninspired and I had one of the most flavorless cocktails I've ever had. I know that many of the former drinks had house-made syrups that they no longer make (why, though?), but the lack of knowledge of the new bartenders (despite being friendly) was obvious.
This used to be the most unique speakeasy I'd been to in all of NH - on par with Boston bars - and now it's completely forgettable. The most boring list of drinks I've seen at a self-proclaimed speakeasy/cocktail bar (these are cocktails you can get at Cheesecake Factory, for real.) If you want to bring back ANY of the magic, PLEASE reinstate a second menu page for unique cocktails. Maybe you've lost the staff required to make these, given the climate, but I question which came first - the loss of staff or the change in management?
We ordered dirty martinis for our second round after 2 miserable first drinks off of the sad new menu, and when we ordered, the bartender laughed and remarked how she had to google how to make a dirty martini. Then they arrived, no "dirty" - just vodka & a dash of vermouth. We politely drank our glasses of straight vodka and left. Apparently the new bartenders at Chuck's can only make the five bland three-ingredient cocktails on the menu, and no further drink staples that have been served by bartenders for a century.
Also, what happened to the riddles that actually were fun to solve? Now it's "what's white in the winter and falls from the sky" with a photo of snow. No exaggeration, that's what the riddle was last time we were there. If you're worried about people taking too long to solve your riddle, just get rid of the riddle and let the vibe do its thing.
It breaks my heart, as I was a regular customer, and the drinks were so incredible. Now it just seems sad. It's more worth it to drive further to the 815 in Manchester for unique and inspired drinks, and a dynamic, talented bar staff.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kim H.Campton, NH0384Aug 28, 2023
Interesting little speakeasy. No reservations. Place got busy by 7:30pm on a Saturday night. Sat at the bar and watched people try to figure out how to get in. Don't feel bad, the 1st visit is always tricky. Inside is small, dimly lit with a nice vib. Passed on my usual wine and had a delicious cocktail. Polenta was so good as was the stuffed chicken. Next time will try the seating in when back with comfy sofa and try a few more cocktail.

A very decent bar. Cocktails are excellent, well made for a fair price, the inside is spacious with good lighting, the service is friendly and attentive.
Of course, some things could be improved. The food is just ok. The entrance situation is gimmicky, to be honest (you have to pick up an old phone and answer a riddle to get in...). After authentic SF speakeasies, let's just say this stuff is unnecessary and doesn't add anything to the experience. The indoors was also very very hot. But these details can be overlooked for an overall pleasant bar.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Tina F.Woodstock, GA4914418Jan 27, 2023
I wish I had checked Yelp recent reviews, a group of us decided to try "the Speakeasy" for dinners. From Google reviews and pictures of menus, it seemed like we'd get real food. Not just bar food. Where were all the craft cocktails I'd seen on reviews? Where are all the salads and real food portions? Their "tapas" menu was limited very small plates of food. I ordered the spicy Thai meatballs, $14 with tax for 3 somewhat cold meatballs.
Cocktail options were typical boring things I can make at home easily. Seriously? Why would you go out for these drinks? The atmosphere is nice but without interesting cocktails and decent food, there's not much reason to go here. Very disappointing.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Skyy W.Tempe, AZ4892847May 14, 2022
First off, I did not expect this place to be so fun and fancy. We are in town visiting and stopped in hopes of finding a good cocktail. Not only was this place so fun, with a great esthetic, but the bartenders are crafty and knowledgeable. I tasted a few cocktails with obscure names that I've never heard of and it was very impressive. Our bartender was named Iris and and she went above and beyond for us.
We ordered the flatbread of the day (GF version and it exceeded our expectations) it was marinara, mushroom, and housemade sausage with some kind of marinara that was melty, toasty, and crispy. I almost didn't believe it was gluten free. Highly suggest if you're looking for a place with good cocktails and delicious snacksHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jessica K.Springfield, MA625525May 5, 2023
Love the speakeasy atmosphere from the secret entrance to the 20's vibe. Cocktails were delicious and creative. I tried the rosewater lemon martini and was very happy with it. Great customer service from all the staff. Will definitely be back when in the area.

Chuck's was a fun, enjoyable and curious experience. We had to help the people before us with the riddle because they were stuck at the door (waited several minutes while they stood there, baffled). The bar was very busy, but we were sat right away. The staff is dressed appropriately for the prohibition. The drinks are really creative and well curated. Food menu is small but good, fresh salads and fries. I don't drink, so I usually explore the dessert menu.. creme brûlée cheesecake was pretty mediocre, but they change the menu often. Bathrooms were private, gender neutral and clean.
