First off, the coconut shrimp is amazing and a must have when visiting! Everytime I come here, I'll get some coconut shrimp. It's perfectly crispy on the outside, cooked perfect inside, right amount of coconut breading, and the mango jalapeño sauce was sweet which provided the perfect pairing. I asked for a side of cocktail sauce in case I wouldn't like the mango sauce because I'm not a fan of mango but ended up loving the sauce. Their cocktail sauce is really good to though.
I had the fettucini citizens which was big, creamy, and delicious. My boyfriend had the ribeye with Mac n cheese and baked potato. He loved his dish too! Entrees are big and will definitely fill you up.
Our server was knowledgeable and friendly, as well as the rest of the staff. This place is definitely a new go-to for us!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - D C.Conroe, TX1104122Jan 13, 2024Updated review
You know, you are always in search of the next best thing, when that happens you forget about the tried and true really excellent places that really deserve the recognition. We come here every now and then, but after a string of mediocre places, Citizens Grill stands out. 1st of all, service is 2nd to none. Ask for Jim, you will not be disappointed. He was attentive, patient and informative. Inside, it's a classic pub like setting, a little music in the background, where one can hear and have conversations easily. The food has always been prepared well and served in portions that are more than appropriate. We had the loaded potato soup, carpaccio salad, jalapeño, bacon mac and cheese balls and a large chicken fries steak with fries, mushroom risotto and Brussel sprouts with a balsamic glaze and bacon. The fries are real potato fries, perfect. The risotto was phenomenal and I love the sprouts. Just sayin, but the drinks aren't bad either.
Honestly, with the string of less than acceptable experiences, this was great and a very useful reminder to stick with what you know. It's ok to experiment, but I left very satisfied and renewed in my faith in restaurants after this visit.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 1Jul 4, 2019Previous reviewFirst, let me say that it is very nice inside. I was with my two girls and we were dressed to go see fireworks and play in the park later that evening. Tshirts. Shorts, etc. I honestly felt a little under dressed, having said that, I felt more at ease when others were dressed as loosely casual. There is no dress code, but I would have felt more comfortable in a polo or nicer shirt.
The staff was very attentive. We sat at a high top, and although I have a rule about not sitting near the door, my attire stopped me from saying anything. I also felt that if I did, they would have honored my request.
We ordered some semi lite food to share. A caesar salad, fried calamari, an avacado BLT and an order of chicken tenders with jalapeno and bacon mac and cheese, and broccoli.
Sort of funny, my daughter has been eating fried calamari for years now thinking the tentacle portion was octopus. I thought she knew. So I told her what is was. Needless to say, she ended up eating my tenders as she says she likes octopus, but not squid. Anyway, both items were very good. I liked the mac and cheese but I felt the jalapeno overpowered the cheese flavor which I thought needed more of. I saw the bacon, I could not taste it though. I liked the jalapeno cream gravy, but I will try the regular white gravy next time. The tenders were great, any adult should like them. Perfectly cooked, juicy and tender.
The broccoli is served as a head of broccoli. Nicely cooked, slightly crispy with garlic over it. I liked the presentation, but I had some bad florets in where you would not seen it before serving. My daughter loved the avacado BLT. They also had real potato fries. I did not try them though. Honestly, if you leave there hungry, you did something wrong. It was tasty overall and portions were very good.
Lastly, we had BlackBerry cobbler and the fudge brownie to share between the three of us. I prefer the cobbler over the brownie for myself. Both portions were huge and we could not finish them.
Overall, 5 out of 5 stars for service, it was great. 4 out of 5 for food, the entrees were great, I will continue to research the sides. The cobbler was great, I did not care for the brownie, but that is me. I will go again, and hopefully soon. - Nov 20, 2023
Awesome BBQ and Bacon Burger on Monday special at $10. Guinness on Tap, Friendly Banter from bartenders! Finally when I thought life couldn't get any better, I noticed the store had A Lounge.
No, no scantily clad young women serving horribly expensive champagne. A room for Adults. No kids allowed. After finishing my burger, had to go thereHelpful 7Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Elizabeth B.South El Monte, CA1085Apr 23, 2024
I came in for dinner today 4/23 at around 5:30, we were sat and given menus by the hostess. However, we sat for 20 mins and no one came by to take our order. Other tables around us were being serviced and we were just ignored. No one came to offer us water or take our order. We weren't able to get anyone's attention despite it not being busy. Eventually, my husband and I ended up leaving and going to the oyster bar next door. We were both really excited about trying their food as we live in the area. Unfortunately, after this experience we probably will not be back.

I ate from here twice on my 9 day trip, it is very convenient to my family's houses. The first was after I flew into Houston so was just a quick pickup order- a plain cheeseburger and side of mashed potatoes. The burger was juicy and the bun was yummy. Mashed potatoes thumbs up as well but the price of 12.99$ makes that the best part.
Second time I came with my sister and brother in law and sat at the bar. It was a fairly empty restaurant on a Wednesday night so they changed the channel to baseball game we asked about, thanks! I believe our bartender may have been Andrew per the nice hostess. He made a yummy raspberry lemon drop I really liked (I'm pretty sensitive to the taste of liquor) he made my sister a passion fruit one not on the menu but recommend asking for it!
I ordered the shrimp pasta which came in a white wine sauce with sautéed spinach topped w/Parmesan cheese, capers side of garlic bread. I got no capers just cause I don't think they add anything! This dish was really really good. I enjoyed it very much and had enough for leftover lunch the next day. It was only like 19$
The food wasn't anything super out of this world, it was very good, a good drink (extremely hard for me to find) and the atmosphere seemed pretty cool (Friday night was busy and Wednesday was nicely quiet). Convenience to me is a plus as well. I would absolutely return and give them 4.5 at this time :)Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 5Oh no 1 - 104023699Feb 25, 2024
The fish and chips were served on a large plate. The bottom of the batter had gotten soggy by the time the dish had arrived. The flavor of the battered fish tasted like expected. The large fries were good but not as hot or crunchy as fries usually are in a restaurant. The coleslaw was tasty, crunchy, creamy and vinegary. I had a few bites of the beef tenderloin tips (medium), which were cooked perfectly. They were tender but meaty. I thought the beef had been too lightly seasoned, but it may have tasted better with the grilled onions. The Bacon-Jalapeño-Mac-and-Cheese Balls are pretty big and deep-fried. The inside is full of small macaroni, creamy cheese, chopped bits of thick bacon and small jalapeños, so they're a little spicy. I don't like to return food, but they tried to cook it a few times, but each time, the interior got less hot, while the exterior got browner. The manager was willing to continue trying, but we said we'd just take it home to reheat as it was just a matter of the interior not getting hot enough. I'm happy that she deducted the cost from our bill as we only took a bite of the dish while there. The carrot cake was huge. There was a lot of cream cheese frosting but since it was spread thinner than usual, it didn't taste overwhelmingly of cream cheese. The cake was thick and moist.

This establishment has great food, great service and great atmosphere! We walked in and we're greeted by a very friendly host, that took us to our table. We sat down and our server was on point with everything, I wish I could remember her name but I cannot. She was a very good server that consistently checked on us despite it being busy and her having other guests to tend to.
The food was very good and they have a huge selection of options to choose from including vegan and gluten free. The desserts are also amazing and the portions are very generous! I will definitely visit them again.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sep 18, 2023
Great clean and relaxed place with friendly staff and delicious drinks.
I always have the pork chop as it's the best in town. My lady tried the grilled chicken with goat cheese and it was fantastic as well.
For the appetizer we had the coconut ship and enjoyed it.
Highly recommend this spot.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0
