It's important to have your color done by a professional to protect your hair and promote hair growth. Ari has been doing my hair for awhile and it's always a vibe, I trust her! Don't walk run and EVERY STYLIST in this shop is EXTRAORDINARY

Let me start by saying in my 35 years of life I've never dyed or bleached my hair; consider me a hair virgin! Lol! I went yesterday to get my hair done I'll list the pro's and con's.
Pro's:
1) Its a Black owned salon which means they more likely than not will understand your specific hair texture.
2) Kind staff that never takes breaks and works around the clock
3) Very kind and accommodating when I was freezing cold (my anemia) by giving me hot tea that was delicious
4) My stylist by the end of the service was kind in offering to fix what I didn't like moving forward, which is something she didn't have to do.
Con's:
1) The color I received is not what I wanted; I gave a few different photos so there was definitely some range to play around with (see photos of what I wanted).
2) My hair turned orange and that was honestly one of my biggest fears bc I hate orange/ red hair on me...I've tried on wigs and just despised it. In all fairness the stylist didn't know the product would turn my hair orange. Apparently I have an orange undertone to my brown hair (which 2 of my friends who do hair explained)
3) My final color is a copper and blonde look. My stylist said she didn't see the copper color, but everyone I have talked too sees it. The stylist pulled out hair swatches to show me it wasn't "orange" which made feel a little uncomfortable and like I was being gaslit; but I think you'll get the jest of it from the photos. My brutally honest 8 year old said "oh mommy, you changed your hair to orange and yellow" LOL!
4) I have a brown dye line going across my forehead which I wasn't expecting to leave with. I'm so embarrassed and had plans for today, but I canceled bc my mom said it looks like a lace-front line! LOL! I went back today and was told it would fade over time and my natural body oils would get rid of it. I put so much Vaseline on my head and I'm shinny as hell now and line still isn't gone! Lol! But patience is a virtue
With all that said, I paid $350 and gave a $50 tip bc karma is real, and to deny the fact that my stylist worked 8 hours on my head would be straight up wrong. Although I hate the color, at the end of the day, it's just hair. It will grow, get cut and grow some more. I hope that if I'm able to go again in the future, they will change this to a 5 star review!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - May 1, 2023
I've been going to the Color Culture Hair Artistry (CCHA) salon for some years now and I always walk out feeling like a million bucks! I love that CCHA is always on the cutting edge of all things hair and Nicki never lets me down in helping me to create my hair visions. I love coloring my hair and because Nicki has 35+ years of experience in not just hair but the art of coloring hair; my hair is always brilliant in color and most of all healthy. One of the things that I love most is Nicki takes the time to explain the current status of your hair and what to expect during and after the process. I once had a conversation with some friends about the ability for a hairstylist to be great in cutting, coloring, hair care and styling and found that most hairstylists are great at one thing and at best good in other areas; however Nicki is pretty great in all areas! From a new stylist perspective, CCHA is a great place for a start as Nicki is such an awesome mentor and the salon is located in a very visual diverse community which provides a lot of walk-ins to build your clientele. The team at CCHA also always feels like a family that is very warm and supportive of each other. Did I also mention that the salon is such a beautiful establishment adorned with colors of teal, cream and beautiful brassy accents which also plays a big part in creating an elegant comfortable relaxing day at the salon! Included are just a few pics of some of my visions that Nicki has brought to fruition for me and as you can see; my hair is very healthy and Nicki keeps my hair well taken care of in between styles.

UPDATE- Response to Owner
1. NEVER did I say I didn't want my roots bleached. The only part I was concerned with bleaching was the part of my hair that was already processed (which is why we discussed an alternative-which you offered and told me we could spot test). I had 0 concerns about bleaching the virgin portion of my hair. Hence, why I provided 2 pics of what I was looking for, neither had a dark root.
2. I did not ask for the "color used", I asked for all the products used during the coloring & style process (which developer bleach, volume of dye, name of products, etc) for 2 reasons. One, I needed to know what had been done so that I didn't overdo anything when buying/using products that following week to start rehabilitating my hair. Two, I always ask this question when I plan to go elsewhere to provide the following stylist a hair history to better maintain the integrity of my hair. As you remember (but probably will deny as you continue to do) I provided you with a history as well when I informed you that: for 1.5 years I had the red color, my previous stylist was using 10 developer bleach and mixing 2 Demi permanents for color and I was able to flat iron my hair every other week and still maintain a healthy curl pattern. (Also not sure what you mean by "traumatized by my last experience with bleach"? My previous stylist prioritized the health of my hair and I had no traumatic experiences with her)
Also I was left on read & my question was never answered, but glad to know you got the message.
3. You're saying you're not gaslighting while simultaneously misquoting me and blaming me. You claim "I was determined to be unhappy" because I as a paying customer voiced what I did and didn't like about my service at your salon. This is the same level of passive aggression I was met with when expressing myself in person. And you do this to any person that leaves an unsatisfactory review. You say "come back for a service" but it's tainted by your blame shifting, condescension, and lies.
4. At this point, the pictures speak for themselves. The bottom right is me leaving your salon after she washed and styled my hair. If those dry, straw-like, inconsistent curls are beautiful to you then we'll have to agree to disagree. (And no, you never said the service would "loosen my curls" cuz I assure you I wouldn't have done it being that any change in my curl pattern was my main concern-which we spoke extensively about)
Y'all are clearly talented. I see it in a lot of the work you have done with other clients. This is why I felt comfortable to switch to your salon even though I adore my last stylist (she's just so far). But you are correct, you missed the mark with me. It's unfortunate but it does happen. No one is perfect but mistakes were definitely made followed by no accountability. Therefore, I won't be returning.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Kerra. I am very sorry to hear that you are unhappy with your hair. I Remember you came in with hair that had been previously bleached and colored. I spoke to you personally during your consultation. At which time you expressed that you did NOT want your roots bleached.( several people heard you say this) . There was no mention of using a “stripper” that would be bleach. Remember you told me you were traumatized by your last experience with bleach. I explained that your roots could be colored but would be darker than your mids and ends which had been previously bleached. You also came in as a very cool red and wanted a very warm copper red. I explained that the transition may take time. I also explained that if we did anything to your mids or ends it could possibly loosen your curl. I then handed you over to one of my most experienced colorist. The color came out to the beautiful warmer copper red that you requested. It was beautiful when you left. When you expressed that you didn’t like the roots being a little darker she offered to add some highlights or decolorize your roots at no additional charge. She even said think about it for a few days and you decided to not get either done. She then curly styled your hair for you at no additional charge (and it was beautiful ). You also told us that you flat iron your hair every other week. Something we advised against if you are trying to keep your curls. I also gifted you products for your curl and told you how to achieve nicer curls. ( Remember you had only wet your hair after your service without shampooing and conditioning first). I also let you know you could contact me personally at anytime if there was anything else we could do for you. I feel that everything was done in attempt to make sure you were happy. But It seemed like you were determined to be unhappy. At the end of the day we work really hard because we want EVERYONE to be over the moon happy with their hair and overall experience. As for talking to one another. We teamwork everything and discuss formula ideas with each other which is not language clients would understand . We do however pride ourselves on taking time to really listen to what the customer wants. I apologize if we missed the mark for you. We are constantly dealing with corrections that are the result of customers bleaching or coloring their hair at home. This can be a recipe for problems which is why a lot of colorist won’t do color correction. Also may I ask if you are unhappy with the color why did you message back to ask what color it was ? There is no gas lighting here. Just honest hard work done at a fair price with the mildest possible top of the line products. Kerra Again I would like to extend an invitation to you again to come back for any service you deem necessary for you to be happy with your hair. I would be happy to take care of you myself. Apr 6, 2023Previous reviewI've been hesitant to write this review because I really really really wanted to like it here.
Top left- me excited to get my hair done
Remaining 3 photos- me extremely disappointed within the first week after getting hair done
Cons
1. Did not do process as discussed
2. Left roots dark, I left the salon looking like I still had grow out (no transition either)
3. Hair is dry. Spent $200 on products to hydrate. Hair still super dry after using 3x the amount I'm used to (still today and I'm writing this 2 months later).
4. The worst part DESTROYED my curl pattern. Spent another $30 on protein treatments. It has helped a little since then but still struggling IMMENSELY.
5. Very expensive. I paid $310 (not including tip) for a color correct, style and trim. The most I've ever paid and I've only ever gotten my hair professionally done for the past 13 years.
6. Stylist was late both times I was there.
7. Stylist double booked and at one point I sat there with wet hair for one whole hour watching her work on someone else's
8. They whisper about your hair/game plan instead of talking in front of you. I found this really odd.
Pros
1. The place looks nice and is very clean
2. In a convenient location.
3. Staff is nice for the most part
4. They did give me a complimentary curl shampoo, conditioner, and gel after I left the salon crying (bottom right is me leaving the salon 1-week after color process for a wash and curly style)
5. They offer you water lol.
Con/Pro
I had to put this in its own category because I think this is the most important part. I was very transparent about what I didn't like about my hair both during the process and after it. I honestly felt gaslit every time I brought up my disappointment. I was told the dark roots were discussed with me prior to service and that my curl pattern was "clearly there" when both were so untrue. I am not a fan of a dark root and never get my hair done that way. The only reason my roots were grown out to begin with was because I was fading out my Cherry red for the color correction which was supposed to be a Copped red. Who would want a dark root in the same pattern as the grow out they came in with? Make it make sense. Also I was told a stripper (which would have been way less damaging) would be used for my color correction and not bleach during the consultation, and of course they insisted that that wasn't true either. We talked extensively about me not wanting to ruin my curl pattern and I was reassured on more than one occasion that that wouldn't happen. (You should never feel like you need to record a hair consultation but honestly I wish I would have) Eventually after a lot of back-and-forth they did agree to "fix" my hair by lightening up my roots in a few sections as long as I came in within the week. Due to the condition my hair was in I decided to go against it because at this point I knew bleach overlap was highly likely.
I honestly get sad when I see all of these beautiful women that had positive results because I so badly wish I could have too. Instead I've spent the last 2 months feeling super self conscious about my hair and I so badly wanted to love it. I see that a lot of girls have had good experiences here, so maybe it could work for some people. But unfortunately that didn't happen for me. - Mikki B.Long Beach, CA0243Apr 24, 2023
First, the friendliest and most accommodating salon. They are on point with their color and work with many textures. The stylists come in at all hours. Asha works wonders and gives great cuts as well. I have seen Nikki do colors and work with various lengths. Natural, pressed or processed hair. All look " FRESH:.

The owner managed to get my review removed, so I am re-adding.
My hair looked gorgeous, however it took 9 hours to get to that point, not to mention I sat in the window seat with my hair on display for the world, to the point I was in tears because i knew my hair looked bad.
Then the owner insulted/mocked me while posting my before picture with some back handed compliment on IG and instead of using service recovery, she defended her actions and doubled down.
I shudder everytime I pass this place. Very good, very expensive and takes an extremely long time to get your hair done.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Good morning Short S. Let me apologize for any misunderstanding that may have occurred. We take great pride in making sure that ALL of our customers feel well cared for and pampered during their time at Color Culture. We would never deliberately insult or shame anyone. One of our specialties is color correction. So we get plenty of people coming in needing correction from at home experimentation. And though we are honest about at home care, we would never try to humiliate anyone. Though the stylist are not employees we try to function under the same philosophy. “ the customer’s happiness and the integrity of their hair are what matters most”. Further more we would never entertain the idea of treating anyone better based on tips. The best tip anyone can give us being happy with their end result. As for timing unfortunately though there is science to what we do, it is also art. It can be unpredictable and sometime take longer to get a desired end result. I apologize if you were not alerted before your arrival time that there was an issue with the schedule. This is not the norm. As for staying until midnight..If that’s what it takes for the correction or creation to be right, we gladly stay and finish the job. Again I would like to extend the offer of you having your hair done again at NO CHARGE. We would like for you to be Happy with your experience. It would help to know who your were to refresh my memory of what occurred. My name is Nicki( owner). (310) 308-7051

Absolutely amazing hair service I received from Shone! She hooked me up with beautiful highlights, a cut, and style! My highlights came out the way I wanted, exactly to the T! I'm highly impressed! Shone pays attention to detail and listens carefully to her clients needs! She takes pride in her work and I strongly suggest making an appointment with her! Not only was Shone an outstanding hair stylist, as I was sitting in my styling chair, I noticed the owner NIKKI styling her clients hair as well, and WOW, even Nikki's work was also amazing! Excellent service, wonderful kind respectful staff, beautiful clean environment and decor, easy parking, and talented stylists! I highly recommend this salon! :-)

My experience in attempting to establish a relationship as a potential new client has been beyond unprofessional. In my attempts to contact the salon and Nicki directly over a period of time in order to make an appointment with Nicki. I have allowed over two weeks to pass hoping to receive some form of communication from the Salon or Nicki. After about two weeks I received a call from the salon stating to text Nicki photos of my hair. I later received a text message from Nicki on Thursday evening asking if my daughter and I could come in Friday evening for a consultation. I immediately responded that unfortunately I had to work Friday but if possible could we schedule the consultation for Saturday morning instead. It has been several days later and I never received a reply or any further communication from Nicki.
I understand that the salon and Nicki may be busy, however the same effort and time taken to post on your social media business page should be equally allocated to communicating with potential clients.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Shikira. Let me first say that I do deeply apologize for this. It is never my/ our intention to not give every single customer the personal attention they deserve. Unfortunately the first message was left when I was on vacation. Afterwards when we did connect. I somehow missed either sending a response or in error may have sent the response to the wrong person. My attempt to be more personal by not having a scheduling app has left room for error. Again I DEEPLY apologize. Hopefully you will reconsider and give us/ me a chance to dazzle you. I appreciate you considering us/ me for your service. Thank you for your consideration. Nicki (310) 308-7051
